Free Speculative Fiction Online

Updated on February 22, 2008

Reading SpecFic: A Literacy Resource

This site provides links to free online Speculative Fiction. SpecFic is a broad and wonderous term that encompasses many forms of speculative genre writing.

Care has been taken to choose only sites that do not infringe on the authors' copyright.

What Is "Speculative Fiction"?

"Speculative Fiction", or "SpecFic", is a term coined by Robert Heinlein decades ago to describe literature that transcends the artificial boundaries of "Science Fiction" and "Fantasy". It's an inclusive term, allowing no snobbery or safety in cliched plots and paper doll characters. Think of it as "What If..." stories allowed to unfold in a fluid, natural manner.

Free range writing. It's healthier.
