Spiral Art Toys

Make Spiral Art with Spirograph, Thread Art, Spiral Pattern Drawing Machines

Spiral art toys are so much fun. As a kid, I had one of the original Spirograph drawing sets, and I loved it!

There was nothing else like it: plugging your ink pen in one of the holes in the little plastic gear circle thingies with teeth that gripped the frame (also with teeth), twirling it around, and coming out with spiral art!

I remember using the different colored pens (red, blue, green, and black, if I recall correctly) all on the same paper. Often times, the spiral art pushed through the paper so that it was either torn clean through or close to it. Ah, such fun!

The randomness of spiral art makes this type of art fun to make because you don't know what you'll get till it's done!

Grab some colored ink pens and see what you make!

Hypotrochoid Art Set

Hypotrochoid Art Set

The word 'hypotrochoid' is a mathematical design. This form is what all of the spiral art toys are based on. A base (frame) with a smaller shape inside that is used to follow the base to create a design.

Beautiful!

Math teachers could use this to teach this complicated design. Well, it's complicated to me!

This hypotrochoid set comes with 2 hypotrochoid templates (red and blue) and a green pen in a tin case with instructions.

I have this nice compact set of spiral art tools. This case is tin and is so easy to take along to make art wherever you go.

I had one of these as a child and how I loved to see the designs being made, I would spend hours at a time using pens of different colors. Thanks for bringing back the fond memories of my childhood.

I've never tried these. I'll have to see if my grandson would be interested in them. I have a feeling he might.
