Switch It Up!

Age levels: All ages

Rating: EASY

These acrylic-painted switch plates will enliven any space, from

a bathroom to a playroom.

Materials

  • Light-switch plate
  • Acrylic paint and brushes

Instructions

1. Cover the work area with newspaper and slip on some

smocks to protect clothing from paint.

2. To achieve a splashed-on look, dip the brush deeply in paint

and then, holding the tip of the handle, wave the brush down

and sideways above the switch. Because the target is small,

the motion of the brush should be quick and compact. Repeat

this process with each color until the plate is sufficiently

covered.

3. Next, try covering another switch plate with a repeated

pattern, such as polka dots, stripes, stick figures or spirals.
