Things to do with Thanksgiving Clip Art

There are so many ways you can use Thanksgiving clip art. This short list comes to mind:

1. Use it to decorate your web site, blog, or Hubpage Hub.

2. Use it to brighten your desktop computer or your laptop.

3. Make Thanksgiving cards and invitations.

4. Make place mats, menus and seating charts.

5. Decorate the newsletter for your church or other organization.

6. Use it to decorate Thanksgiving craft projects.

7. Use it in scrapbooking pages and layouts.

8. Incorporate it as a still image into your Thanksgiving videos when you are doing the video editing.

9. Include it in your HTML email messages

10. Incorporate it into a Powerpoint presentation

11. Use it to decorate programs of church services or other Thanksgiving related festivities

12. Decorate office bulletins and memos

There's a dozen suggestions to get you started. No doubt you have many more ideas of your own for using these illustrations.

Convert Clip Art to Black and White

Sometimes you just want a nice black and white image, but they are not easy to find. Black and white clip art can be elegant and simple -- and it matches all color schemes.

Did you know you can convert your pictures to black and white easily, using an image editing program?

Adobe Photoshop Elements 13: Image Editing Software

Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 [Old Version]
Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 [Old Version]

This software is one of the products on that market that you can use to edit your clipart, graphics, and other pictures. It's the baby brother of Adobe Photoshop CSx (Creative Suite), the software giant favored by graphic designers and illustrators. Elements can't do everything that Creative Suite can do, but its unlikely that you need it to. This smaller program has more than enough features for those of us who are not graphic designers by trade.

ModifyingYour Thanksgiving Clip Artt

The picture above started out as a brightly coloured cornucopia. I converted it to black and white to show you what I mean.

If you're using a Windows computer, you can do this using Paint, which is found in the Accessories menu. Paint is a very simple program but it will do this task. Be sure to work with a copy of the picture, not the original. Let's say you have downloaded a clip art file from a web site. Make a copy, then open the copy in Paint. In Paint's Image menu, select Attributes, then click on black and white. Save your file.

I'm sure that the Apple computer has a similar program.

As I said earlier, Paint is a very simple little application. It is quite limited in what it can do. If you really want to edit your Thanksgiving Clip Art, I suggest you invest in a more powerful image editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements.

This is a popular, highly rated software application. You can use it to edit all of your digital photographs. Editing clip art is just the beginning of what you'll do with this application.

Change Colors in your Thanksgiving Clipart

When you're using a good image editing software application, you can change the color of various parts of your clip art. In the picture of the pilgrims, the couple on the left is the original clip art. With the couple to the right, I have changed the woman's dress to the exact color of the man's socks and hat band.

I did this using two tools in Photoshop Elements: The Color Picker and the Magic Wand.

I could have changed the colors to any hue I wanted. You could also choose colors to match your place settings at the table, for example, or the menu items or anything else you want.

Make a Thanksgiving Card

You can use your clip art to make a hand made Thanksgiving card. You'll need some cardstock, some scrapbook papers or other paper with a Thanksgiving theme, glue, cutting tools and your imagination.

I made this card myself. I used card stock and scrapbook paper. The raccoon is clip art, which I colored by hand using Copic Sketch Markers.

Add Thanksgiving Clipart to a Photograph

You can add your Thanksgiving clip art to any digital photograph.

I have added the border (full color) to this photograph of a little boy lying over a big pumpkin. With a little imagination, you can see the possibilities here.

To do this in Adobe Photoshop Elements, you would resize both the photograph and the clip art so the two images have the correct scale for one another. Then, using the Magic Wand, you select the white background in the clip art image. Reverse the selection so you have selected only the image. You don't want to add the white background to the photograph, just the object itself. Copy the selection to the clipboard, then paste it onto the photograph. Use the Move Tool to move the clip art to where you want it to be. Then save the file.

Convert Thanksgiving Clip art into Stickers

Did you know how easy it is to turn your Thanksgiving clip art into stickers?

There are various ways you can do this. The first, obviously, is to print it onto paper or card stock, cut it out, put glue on the back and stick it on something.

If you have the computer skills and the right software program, you can print out a page full of stickers onto Avery labels or other similar products found at stationary stores or Staples.

Perhaps the easiest and neatest way is to use a machine like the Xyron 150 Create-A-Sticker Machine.

You often see this little gadget on sale in craft stores for $10 or less. I paid a whopping $1.50 for mine. You purchase cartridges separately. The machine comes with instructions, but essentially, you print out your clip art onto paper or card stock. You cut this paper or card stock into strips the width of the Xyron, then wheel it through the sticker maker. Your strip of paper comes out the other side of the Xyron, and the back is covered with adhesive. You will still have to cut out your clip art using scissors.

It's difficult to explain, but this little gadget is wonderful.

Neat stuff. One thing about some of the clip art sites is that they are hard to search. Are there some that you find are easier to search than others?

Hi! I have not tried it yet, but clipart can be used for tea bag folding. I have not used the printer for tiles but many people do.
