African Artworks: Amazing paintings of the famous Okwoju El-Dragg

The beauty of African Women

The amazing paintings of paintings of Okwoju El Dragg

El Dragg hails from the Delta region of Nigeria in West Africa. He is one of Nigeria’s foremost painters .

He attended the University of Benin which is situated in historical city of Benin in Nigeria.

Although famous for it's ancient bronze sculptures and its rich cultural heritage, the modern city of Benin has a thriving art community at the University of Benin where El Dragg is a senior lecturer in painting.

Even before he graduated from the University of Benin in Nigeria in 1985, he was already a well known name in the Nigerian art community, and his paintings have remained sought after in Nigeria and the Diaspora .

Most of El-Dragg's paintings are done in oils. his love for the beauty, colour and diversity of the Nigerian culture is evident in his work. His forte seems to be bringing out the elegance, beauty and diversity of the female figure. It would almost appear as if he has the anatomy of the female figure etched in his memory.

With a temperament to match Michelangelo’s, he can be fiery and feisty when it comes to taking a stand for what he believes in, and he will voice his opinion without fear.

I am lucky to have met this creative genius of a man, because we both went to the same university. I remember him always absorbed in his work, painting away, one paint brush in his hand and another in his mouth!

Like his personality, his paintings are blunt, vivid, vibrant and unforgettable. Like the Mona Lisa, they demand your attention and keep it long after you leave. The last time I actually saw an original El-Dragg was about 25 yrs ago, and I can still remember it today.

You can see more examples of his work on the website below.Website
