Children's Party Tip From 1936

Try an "Elephant Hunt" when you have a group of little people to entertain. Prepare a box with a hole in the cover just large enough for a small hand to enter and emerge with its spoil. Put a goodly supply of animal crackers in the box and place it on a table. Provide each child with a small paper bag. Organize your "safari," in other words, line up the children in a row ready to march by the box. If someone plays a nice jungly marching tune on the piano it is more fun. The object of this "hunt" is to acquire as many elephants as possible. As each child marches by the box he reaches in the hole and draws out a cracker, putting it into his paper bag. Round and round they march until each child has ten or a dozen animals. When anyone draws an elephant he shouts. "Game!" When the music stops, everyone counts the number of elephants "bagged" and a jolly elephant toy or story book awarded to the one having the most "game." ~ Home Arts Needlecraft, June 1936

@elinnybo: I've never seen a photo, but I've sold over a hundred of these patterns and no complaints. Antique patterns are generally hard to understand. Instructions have become simplified through the years. I'm not an expert crocheter, so I'm afraid I'm of no help. Anybody who sees this post, we would love for you to share a photo!
