Upcycle Leather Belts

Updated on September 27, 2018

Leather Belts Upcycled, Recycled

Are you aware of all the things that can be created when leather belts are upcycled? I've picked several of my favorite recycled leather belt projects from the internet (including my woven leather chair seat) to showcase on this page to hopefully inspire you and make you think about ways you can reuse those old leather belts in your own closet.

Rectangular strips of leather are the perfect medium for constructing all manner of upcycled home d├ęcor and reworking into fashion handbags and/or jewelry. Weaving leather belts as I did for my chair seat is another great way to up cycle. However you use them, be sure to upcycle leather belts next time before you have to go buy them back from the thrift store.

Ting of London makes these unique recycled leather belt floor tiles. These floor tiles made from leather belts were also found on the internet courtesy of dornob. I'm sure this up cycle leather belts project could also become a diy project for those of us on a tighter budget.

Upcycled Leather Chair Seat

This is a leather chair seat project I completed several years ago by upcycling leather belts I picked up at the thrift shop. It's a simple process and only requires a few hand tools and little expertise.

I recently published a tutorial here on my blog, Sallygoodin.

Easy peasy tutorial from a clever user at the website Instructables shows you how to make a leather cuff bracelet from a leather belt. These would probably make fun diy gifts and at a very nominal cost.

Quick project takes only 5 minutes to complete!

Another Instructables author, Doggie Stylish, used an old leather belt to make a dog collar for her pet in just five minutes. See how she did it here. Clever lady to think of such a practical reuse for leather belts!

I tried your idea of using woven belts for handles on my homemade tote bags. Worked great. Thanks for the inspiration.

Great ideas. I pick up a lot of belts at thrift stores to use for belts on blue jean purses. I really love the chair seat.

What fantastic ideas! I never would have thought of most of these. Love that bag made from belts, and the rug (so unique!). The bag handle idea looks so good too, seems crazy people haven't thought of this before. but I'm not a big lover of the leather trade, but upcycling is a great way to use up existing leather -- and vintage leather has a charm that's hard to fake.

There are a lot of Rastros(flea markets) where I live and there's always belts for sale. The wrist band could be painted with acrylic, you never really think about these good ideas until you see it, great lens thanks for sharing.

Oh my, yes, this is a great lens and what super ideas. I've used belts - and belt parts to decorate my designer handbags from knit and felted wool. But using them to make floor tiles, and lady - you are so creative and talented, I'm bookmarking your lenses. Blessings.

Love that chair! Several years ago I bought a set of mismatched wood chairs from a thrift store. As time permits I am slowly managing to get them indivdually updated. I definitely need to start collecting leather belts for a seat on one of them!
