Valentine's Day Face Paint Ideas
Romantic Valentines Makeup Ideas for Kids and Adults
This selection of Valentine's face paint ideas is a fun way to try a new Valentine's Day craft that everyone can get involved in. We know that this is the holiday of romance and true love, but nobody loves a celebration quite as much as children, and face painting gives the kids an opportunity to be part of the fun. It's an ideal activity for a Valentine's party to keep younger guests amused.
But before you dismiss face painting as only for children, think again! If you take a look at the Valentine's face paint ideas on this page, you will see beautiful designs for teens and for ladies, where the focus is on attractive eye designs with a romantic theme. You will also find a body paint design modelled by a famous face painter.
What about people who hate Valentine's Day or find all these hearts and flowers a bit too much? Never fear, there is an anti-Valentine's face painting design here too!
Valentines Face Paint for Small Kids - A Cute Valentines Day Puppy Face!
I have featured this first one, a Valentine's Day puppy, because it is about as cute as you can get for little ones. Small children love being transformed with face paint and it is a fun way to give them a part to play and to transform Valentine's Day into a family occasion.
The puppy face paint design works for both girls and for boys. If you have a little boy and he's not keen on the pink, try red. It still fits with the Valentine's theme but without being girly!
Step by Step Face Painting Instructions for Valentine's Puppy
How to Face Paint this Fun Valentine's Day Design
Sponge on white face paint down the center of the face, from forehead to chin, and in the eye sockets. To make this central stripe look like a puppy dog face, try to form an hourglass shape that is narrow at the top of the nose, widening as it extends down the cheeks, and in again towards the chin. (TIP: Pause the video at 48 seconds to get a good view of this shape)
Using your sponge, add the pink face paint to the sides of the face.
For a puppy with sparkle (and children love to sparkle!) add some face glitter gel on top of the face paint.
With a dark pink face paint and a brush, paint the outline of a heart over one eye, where a puppy would normally have a 'patch'. Begin to fill it in, but there is no need to paint right up to the eye if the child is young or doesn't like the brush near their eyes. You can optionally add some glitter too.
Use the same color on your brush to paint on the tip of the nose to make a puppy nose. Add face glitter.
Step 6: (Hard to see in video)
With the same dark pink (or red) paint on a heart or two on the cheek on side of face that does not have the heart around the eye. Add face glitter.
Using black face paint on the brush, draw curves from corners of mouth up and in towards the side of the nose. Also outline the white area on the chin. Add line from nose to top of lip.
With black face paint, create outline of the mask. This forms a butterfly wing shape starting from the inner end of the eyebrow, sweeping up onto forehead and down side of face. Keep it soft by making small curves as you paint. Add a 'fur' effect to white patch on forehead with short vertical strokes.
With the red/dark pink face paint create a puppy tongue on one side of chin and lower lip. Outline with black and add a central black line.
Paint the rest of the lower lip and the upper lip black too. Dot on some black whisker holes on upper lip to complete this pink Valentine's puppy face painting design!

Little girls will adore the whole romantic princess theme. For older girls and women this face paint design gives you a chance to dress up for Valentine's Day without looking childish. Ashlea uses Grimas face paints. If you don't have those you can use a different brand, but for the best effect you will need a light and a darker pink, a pearlescent pink, a dark red, and white. Be sure to add glitter if you want added sparkle -- a must if painting it on a little girl!
