What is Wedha Pop Art Portrait?

The Definition

Broadly speaking WPAP is human portrait illustration style (usually famous figures) dominated flat fields bloom color is placed in the front, middle, and back to cause dimension. Dimension itself formed from the imaginary lines firmly where the face shape, the position of the elements of the face member, and the proportions remain the same as the original portrait. Tracing the creative process used is not subject to 100 percent on what is on-trace.

The History

Wedha Abdul Rashid has worked as an illustrator in printed media since the 1970s to the present. Starting 1977, when he joined the Hai magazine , he made a lot of illustrations. On this magazine he worked on portraits of world leaders from all backgrounds: political figures, musicians, artists, through fictional characters.

In about the year 1990-1991, Wedha illustrate the human face as a collection of flat areas formed by lines. This is thought due to lower visibility because of age who have reached 40 years old, so it is difficult to draw a face in a realistic and detailed. Wedha then try to picture cubism style illustration. He described the faces of the figures are arranged in a mosaic of color are broken up according to its facets. Not in the sense of Cubism but rather combine different colors to form the character depicted. Then the faces can be recognized worldwide as Mick Jagger, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Sting, Bono, Queen, to call it political figures JFK, Bung Karno, Indira Gandhi, Bhutto, Fidel Castro, Ahmadinejad. Also portrait Rendra, Slank, Jakob Oetama, John Lennon to Andy Warhol.

In the manual process, he found an easy and getting easier and easier. But the easier way that he found, the more hesitant to say that what is produced is quite worth to be called a work of art. In fact, his work began to tune the reader, even on some occasions many world musicians admired his work. But still Wedha considers his work is to fulfill his duties as an illustrator. This feeling is not directly bound so widely publicized.

This style was then growing and increasingly popular as part of the pop art style even up to the present. See the works of cubism style Wedha in pop art style. His works are not detailed, just a Cubist pieces with a harmonious blend of color, but is able to represent a character's face depicted very well.
