53 Creative Owl Craft Ideas

Loraine loves arts and crafts and used to volunteer at an elementary art class. She loves sharing fun and kid-friendly craft tutorials.

Artists and crafters have managed to capture the owl in a number of interesting and appealing ways. I love the variety and colors they use to depict the owl.

While searching for new owl projects, and looking for fresh ideas on how to make owls, I came upon some nice projects. In this article I will show you pictures of the owl crafts that I found, and I also include the name and URL or the project site. I hope you find this article helpful and that it saves you valuable time when you are looking for ideas to make your own owl art or crafts.

1. Sweater Owl Ornament

Do you have a sweater, or sweaters, that you hate to get rid of, but you really don't plan on ever wearing again? Then, you might like to make owl ornaments to decorate your tree, gift packages or as party favors. Find the easy to understand instructions at Her Tool Belt . Download the owl tummy pattern and cut your pieces from your sweater and pieces of felt.

2. Mr. and Mrs. Who

This is definitely a project that I'll want to make. There is working with paper mache as part of the tutorial that you'll find at Purple Hues and Me. A great décor piece when this is finished.

3. They're a Hoot, Shoes

These owl themed shoes really are a hoot. I love them! Very cute way to use fabrics in decorating the shoes. You'll find the tutorial for making these outstanding owl shoes at The Art of Homemaking.

4. Paper Plate Owl

It's nice when you can find paper plate crafts to do with the little kids. It's an inexpensive craft to make and the kids love working with them. For the instructions to make a paper plate owl like this one, go to Huppie Mama.

5. Who's There Wreath

This is one of the cutest Fall wreaths that I've seen. I like the humor of it and also I love the use of the feathers. To make a wreath like the one shown here, go to About Family Crafts for the tutorial.

6. Owl Pillows


These beautiful, colorfull owl shaped pillows would make a great addition to a bedroom or family room. Go to the celebration shoppe for the directions on how to make them.

7. Cupcake Paper Owls

These are so inexpensive to make, and they would be a cute place card for a baby or bridal shower. Go to PLAY AND LEARN WITH DANA for the instructions. Kids will love making these too.

8. Give a Hoot Felt Owls

Make these cute felt owls as ornaments or pendants. Go to juicy bits for the directions. Look under the picture of the teal and tan owl for the Download button.

9. Owl Measuring Tape


You'd never know that a tape measure was hidden in this little owl. This would be a great gift for a crafter or decorator. Find the directions to make this project at tiny apartment crafts.

10. Appliqued Kitchen Towels


Appliqued owls on these kitchen towels would be a great gift for a themed kitchen. Go to Craft jr to get the patterns for this project.

11. No Sew Burlap Owl

15. Candy Wrappers

26. Folded Cupcake Liner Owls

I think this would be sure a cute classroom project. Have each of the kids make three owls to decorate a tree branch on a background paper. See how these little liner owls are made by going to the kids activities blog. Use cupcake liners with a holiday theme.

The only difference that I can see between this owl and the one shown earlier is the wings made using brown paper, but the difference is noticeable so I'm including this one too. These really cute owls can be made by following the instructions given at AMELIE'S HOUSE.
