I love to share my favorite patterns on the web for people out there who like making things as much as I do!

The Knifty Knitter Yellow Round Loom, Size XL

Free Patterns for the Knifty Knitter Yellow Round Loom

The yellow round loom is the biggest in the Knifty Knitter round loom set. It measures 11 1/4 inches wide and has 41 pegs. It is sometimes referred to as the "extra large" round loom. If you enjoy knitting in the round, you'll appreciate this collection of patterns just for the extra large Knifty Knitter loom. With it you can make hats for large adults or it can be used to makes shawls, shrugs, and bags. Round looms are more compact than long looms and they are also easier to turn when you reach the end of a row. This loom also has enough pegs to knit large projects. That's why this yellow loom happens to be one of my favorite looms.

What you will need:

Provo Craft Supplies

  • Knifty Knitter X-large Loom (Yellow Round)
  • Knifty Knitter hook

Other Supplies

  • Crochet hook J or K size
  • Yarn needle
  • Pine Green - Red Heart Yarn (Weight 4)
  • Bounce, Lion Brand Yarn (Bounce) Green tones

This a women's size large X-large

1. Holding 2 yarns together as if they are one, wrap all of the pegs (41) and knit a flat piece that is 17" long.

2. Use the crochet cast off to remove it from the loom. (The terms cast off and bind off are used interchangeably in loom knitting and simply mean to remove the knit from the loom.) Crochet a single crochet stitch in the first loop by the working yarn and continue to the next peg following the path of the yarn back across the loom. Crochet very loosely, so that it does not pull the edge of the knitted piece.

You will need to make 2 pieces, one for the body front and one for the back.

3. Now it's time to make the sleeves. Using both yarns together wrap all of the pegs (41) and knit two flat pieces until they are 12" long.

4. Lay the front and back pieces together side to side. Place the ends from the bind off to the top. Sew with a yarn needle and one strand of yarn (the knitting worsted yarn is best) the side seams. See instruction diagram.

5. Mark the center front and back. Sew the sleeves from the centers to the underarm seam. See diagram. Place the sides that are bound off at the neck, as they are a little more secure. Do a simple single crochet stitch around all of the outer edges, using one strand of the knitting worsted yarn.

6. Wear your own loom knitted sweater and impress your family and friends with your talent.

Drop Stitch Shawl from the Knifty Knitter Blog

This is one of my favorite patterns that I've written in many years of loom knitting. The shawl features the drop stitch, which creates a lacy knit. It is made of washable Merino wool, so you do not have to worry about cleaning it. It can be washed in a washing machine. It is perfect for an evening out to keep the chill off your shoulders. It is a V back shawl with yarn fringe along the bottom. It will take a few days to make this shawl.

Skill Level: Beginner

You will need:

  • Knifty Knitter Yellow Round Loom
  • Knifty Knitter yarn needle
  • 6 skeins Knit Picks Superwash Merino Wool

Simple Elegance Rectangle Shawl

This shawl pattern for the yellow round loom is knitted skipping every other peg. This gives the lacy open space between the stitches. The crochet spoken of in the instructions refers to the crochet cast-off, or removal of the shawl from the loom when it's finished. The pattern uses the e wrap cast-on and the ends are covered with fringe from the remaining yarn.

Skill Level: Intermediate

You will need:

  • Knifty Knitter Yellow Round Loom
  • yarn needle
  • Knifty Knitter hook
  • Crochet hook (size J or K)
  • 1 skein Micro Spun by Lion Brand Yarn (Lilac)
  • 2 skeins Moonlight Mohair by Lion Brand Yarn (color of your choice)

This back pack pattern has an interesting twist. Not only will you learn how to make a back pack on the extra large loom, but it shows you how to weave on the looms as well to create the bottom of the bag. If you have only knitted on the looms, you are in for a treat.

Skill Level: Intermediate

You will need:

  • Knifty Knitter Yellow Round Loom
  • yarn needle
  • 2 skeins of Lion Brand Yarn (Chunky USA)

@marsha32: Oh Marsha that is so wonderful. Let me know who it goes for you. I love the idea of a prayer shawl, but haven't done one yet. If you document it on Squidoo, I'd love to link to it.

Hubby has wanted to buy me a Knifty Knitter set for a couple years now. Cost wise I wouldn't let him, but I ran across one very cheap at a sale the other day. I was so excited.

I am currently working with the large yellow round. I do believe it will be a shawl...a prayer shawl to be given to church.

The latest cowl shawl is a very thin scarf with jewelry of beads strung on and put in the center for a pendant effect. I did not know the knitting ring was so versatile.

LOVE the Knifty Knitter. I have made hats and a cowl on them, and hope to make more interesting things on them. I have seen a sock pattern to make on it and now I have plenty more to consider thanks to your awesome lens. :-)
