1980-1983 Honda GL1100 Gold Wing Factory Service/Shop Manual
I bought my Honda GL1100 Gold Wing knowing that it had issues. I found it on Craigslist for $500.00 and it did not run. But that was fine. I wanted to take it from a full dresser to a custom GL1100 and I wanted the challenge.
The guy who sold it to me told me that it needed a stator and a starter. I should have known that those would not be the only issues I would find, but at that price, I was willing to take the risk.
The starter wasn't a hard job to do. But after I got the bike started, it sprung an oil leak from the weep hole. Come to find out, the water pump needed to be replaced too. That is when I bought this 81-83 Honda Gl1100 Goldwing service manual.
When it came to replacing the stator/alternator, having this book was priceless. To do this job you have to remove the engine. Not an easy task, but it is do-able.
I am not a mechanic by any means, but with this book I was able to pull the engine and stator with only minor cursing and bruises. It was a bit trickier putting it back together because it doesn't go step by step over the reinstal.
The book cost more than I expected, but it was worth the money. I must admit, it is not a exact step by step guide on everything you need to do to get the job done. It was written for Honda technicians who should have a general knowledge about working on these bikes. Not for the backyard mechanic who is going at it blind. But if you need a good gl1100 manual with some very good images, this is the book you are looking for.
If I was able to do it, barring any issues I do not know about, you should be able to do it too.
