2011 Kia Optima Review

LotPro's very own Steve Cyper from Steve TV gives his take on the 2011 Kia Optima.

Included Equipment

In addition to its Premium package, the Optima EX comes equipped with the optional Technology Package, that includes a nav system, Infinity audio system with 8 speakers and a back-up camera.

Other standard options on the EX include dual-zone automatic climate control, USB and auxiliary input jacks, Bluetooth, power windows, locks, heated outside mirrors, push button start, auto dimming rearview mirror with homelink and an air conditioned glove box.

Safety equipment includes a full compliment of 6 airbags, ABS, traction control, vehicle stability control and downhill brake/hill-start assist control.

Interior/ Exterior

Kia Exterior

The swept roofline is accentuated by a chrome strip that begins at the leading edge of the greenhouse at the beltline where it sweeps up just above the door glass and follows the roofline until it terminates at the base of the c-pillar at the base of the rear window glass.

Outside, Schreyer and his designers have given the Optima a look of purposeful sophistication. A taught ridge begins just above the headlamp enclosures in front and follows the beltline until it terminates just above the taillamp where it intersects with the upper ridge of the trunk.

Rear taillamps wrap around the quarter panels with an upward taper that terminates at nearly the same linear point as the chrome greenhouse trim. It's a minimalist and purposeful design worthy of any German manufacturer made even more striking by the fact that it comes from Kia.

Kia Interior

The Dark Cherry EX equipped with the optional Premium Package consists of a spectacular panoramic sunroof with twin sun shades, power passenger seat, memory driver's seat with both front seats equipped for heating and cooling. The rear outboard seats also get heated, as well as the steering wheel.

Although not nearly as striking as the exterior, the Optima's interior is notable due to the use of soft-touch surfaces and a liberal dose of leather and grey-stained wood. While the design is hardly ground breaking, its execution is nearly flawless.

All controls are within easy reach of the driver, with fit and finish as well as switchgear operation being world class.

2011 Kia Optima Pricing

Additional package pricing

2011 Optima pricing starts at $18,995 for an LX model equipped with a manual transmission.

Premium Package + $2,250

Technology Package + $2,000.

Shipping Charges + 695

Optima EX with additional premium and technical packages total manufacturers suggested retail price of $27,440.

This might seem a lot to pay for a Kia, but think about this - that's $3,000 less than a comparably-equipped Honda Accord.

Wow, Kia has come a long way from the little boxes they used to sell.

The Kia new aerodynamic design is a big plus for the Kia brand...styling and price makes the Kia Optima a very strong competitor for the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord and the best selling Ford Fusion.

@Shane-o: Thanks so much for the glaring review! You pretty much can't beat the bumper to bumper warranty. Thanks for the Squidlove!

Most impressive aspect of the Kia line up is the warranty. With a industry leading warranty you are covered, BUMPER TO BUMPER for the entire term of your loan. How is that for reassurance? My biggest hang up about buying a Kia would be reliablility - but with the warranty that concern is gone! Oh, and awesome lens!

Seems like a nice car -- although I think I like them boxier, in general.

I'm not so keen on the swept rooflines at the back, especially if you are a tall passenger, I would have to sit in one to see what the headroom was like. Looks nice though, and I like the twin sunroofs.
