2014 Dodge Ram 1500 vs. 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated on October 27, 2014

Ram & Silverado Dimensions Compared

First off, the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 comes in crew cab: short box, crew cab: mid box, quad cab: mid box, regular cab: mid box and regular cab: long box. So, you have a lot of options to choose from when deciding how long of a bed you need for your truck. The longest bed is 8 feet with the regular cab: long box and the most interior volume is the crew cab: short box that has 125.3 cubic feet, which allows for much more leg room and seats up to 6 people. You could easily take this truck on a family trip. The Chevy Silverado 1500 1WT crew cab: standard box comes with a 6'6" bed and an interior cabin size that fits up to 6 passengers as well but their website doesn't even advertise exactly how much the interior volume is. Chevy could really help out its potential customers if they would provide more information on their website. The Dodge Ram 1500 comes with 20" Chrome Clad Aluminum Wheels, while the Chevy Silverado 1500 for $5000 more comes with only 17" wheels. With 20" wheels, you could really be riding in style. Also the appearance of the Ram is much more appealing. The Silverado has a design that is like a box shape, which some prefer in a truck, but he Ram has more style and looks more modern. Hi John, thank you so much for your input of your experience. Some people try to say the Chevy is better and that my article is bias, but it is not. I use facts from the Chevy and Dodge websites & did my own research. The Ram is cheaper and better. It's good to hear from somebody with experience! It's ok for someone to prefer the Chevy but when you compare facts like I did, the Dodge Ram is better overall. We'll see if Chevy can do better for the 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. For those of you who like Chevy better, that is fine. I like Chevy overall better as a company & I think they make more reliable vehicles. We all like different things :) but the Ram wins with the stats.

I just traded in my 2012 Silverado ( 5.3 ltr ) for a new 2014 Ram. The Ram is smoother, quieter, and handles much better. I did NOT like the 5.3 ltr cylinder deactivation in the Silverado. The acceleration was sluggish and annoying in city driving. I gave Chevy a 2nd chance, and test drove a 2014 Silverado crew cab with the 5.3 ltr, and the sluggish feeling was worse than our 2012. Not only does the Ram have more power, I'm getting 23 MPG on the highway, plus it was priced $4,000 less than Chevy.

Cody, I personally think that Chevy's are more durable, will last longer and be worth more money down the road. Perhaps that is why the Chevy Silverado 1500 cost more than the Dodge Ram 1500

Now lets talk about how they will both run after 15 years, or what the resell value is after it's paid off.

Johnd559, I do plan on making my next article about cars and trucks longer than this. One thing I forgot to add in this article is how Chevy trucks and Chevy in general are more reliable and need to be repaired less than Dodge trucks and other Dodge vehicles. I believe that may be why the Dodge Ram 1500 is much cheaper than the Chevy Silverado 1500.

I do trust all of the ideas you've presented in your post. They're very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very short for beginners. May just you please lengthen them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post. fdgebdbbeege

@Misc These numbers are accurate and come directly from the official websites for 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 and 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500. I don't know where you get that the Silverado has a higher towing capacity but it all depends on the exact model and upgrades. I have compared the 2 models that are most alike, but of course if you compare the basic Ram with the highest upgrade Silverado then the Silverado would have a higher capacity but when comparing the equal models and upgrades, the Ram wins. I do not love Dodge and actually prefer Chevy but when it comes to these trucks, the Ram is better and is a much better value. We are all entitled to opinions on the trucks, but those numbers are the facts and come directly from the official Dodge and Chevy websites. I did a lot of research on these trucks from those websites, but I don't feel like going back to them to see if it is even possible for the Chevy to have more towing capacity in any upgrade, but I highly doubt that any upgrade would give the Chevy more towing capacity then the Ram. You can go to their website and check it out for yourself but if it's even possible it will cost thousands more.

I'm not sure if you really know anything about these trucks but thr numbers you posted above are not correct. The silverado has a higher towing capacity, payload, and better economy. Sorry dodge lover.
