All That Glitters Ain't A Harley

Updated on August 10, 2011

Life gets rough,

The path gets gnarly,

And all that glitters,

Ain’t a Harley.

Keep the shiny side up,

The dirty side down.

Treat your brother right,

You’ll be coming back around.

Give me endless summer, the heat,

Two wheels and a leather seat.

Clean water, nourishing food to eat,

Old friends and the new we meet.

Give me a sunset, a mountain view,

Some wine, some bread, and you.

Life is a flicker. Poof! We’re gone.

And- man doesn’t live on bread alone.

Slow it down,

Take a closer look.

Life can’t be lived,

From another’s book.

Seize the day,

With all your might.

Don’t go into the light,

Without a fight.

Keep the chin up.

The rubber side down.

Let’s lift the brother up,

We’ll be coming back around.

Gold is just some metal,

Buried in the ground,

Keep an eye on your sister,

It’s all coming back around.

Ask for strength and vision,

When your path gets gnarly,

And know that all that glitters,

Ain’t a Harley.

~Micky Dee~

All That Glitters Ain't A Harley

I hope you have a look and enjoy the 2 minute 30 second video above.

The video is basically the poem but a little more visual.

I made the video and used a little photo magic.

I added some rustic guitar for your enjoyment.

Ditto to what your other followers said!

      Love the lines:

      Slow it down,

      Take a closer look.

We are in such a hurry sometimes. The beauty from a bike or a walk force you to really see.

Going on another bike trip in October. 30 miles this time!!

How right you are Mr Dee.Everything that glitters is not gold, and one cannot replace what is irreplaceable.

And in other words........It is like trying to replace God's spirit with ours...there is no substitution.

      Just beautiful.

'Seize the day, With all your might'

Yep live for today for tomorrow may never come.

Love one another and take care of each other for who knows what lies around the corner and life is short. Friendships are much more valuable than worldly goods.

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

      Voted up and away

This could be a hit song! Great poem, great metaphorical imagery about life!

Life can be like stormy weather,

I'd rather be stretched out on my leather,

Sow your crops, your oats and barley,

I'd rather leave you in the dust of my Harley!

      Hope you like, Ginger :P

What could be a better way to start the day. Your words, so real, so true. What inspires me from your poetry, happiness, live, laugh, good times are there, we have to grab em with both hands and hang on tight. I loved the video music, i kept looking for you to be riding the Harley. LOL Thank you.

Thanks for this poem. And for the video. I kept looking at the man's chin, I thought over the length of the poem your beard would slowly appear. That would have been a good effect.

You said a mouthful with this poem, Micky. And it's so true. All that glitters ain't a Harley ... or a Lexus ... or a Lamborghini ... or any aother vehicle of your choice. Live life to the fullest - it's the only one we get.

Mickey Dee. Your words sent a shiver through me. Then your invitation to listen to the video just set this Hub apart. Those Virginia hills must have agreed with you.
