Bahrain grand Prix History

No longer the only F1 race to take place in the Middle East the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2009 will be the fourth race in the F1 calendar for 2009.

The inaugural Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in 2004 was a huge success enjoyed by millions the world over on TV. The race was won by Michael Schumacher, the formula one world Champion.The race was a big success within the F1 community with everyone enjoying the friendliness and hospitality of the Bahraini people. For one weekend, Bahrain became the center point of the sporting world and demonstrated clearly to people and international business that Bahrain is "open for business". In 2004 the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix was recognized for its organizational capabilities with the award of the FIA Race Promoters' Trophy. This award was made at the FIA Gala Awards in Monte Carlo and was awarded to Bahrain for the best organizing at a F1 Grand Prix in 2004, this helped establish Sakhir and Bahrain as the center of gulf motor sport, which it continues to be till this day.

Bahrain 2009

Bahrain has hosted successful Grand Prix's every year since, in 2006 Bahrain had the privilege of hosting the seasons opening race, again to much acclaim.

The Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2009 will held on the weekend of April the 24th, 25th, and 26th at the modern, highly acclaimed, Sakhir Formula one racing circuit in Bahrain. Once again Bahrain is expected to put on a grand show for the entire weekend with spectators expected from around the world.

Last years race was a sell-out, over 45,000 spectators were at the Bahrain International Circuit's first hosting of the Formula One World Championship round in 2004, more than 100,000 fans made their way to the 2008 weekend and 2009 is expected to be the same so if you are planning to visit it is recommended that you book your Bahrain Grand Prix tickets early.

Where to stay in Bahrain

So if you are planning to visit Bahrain during this time you will need to find accommodation. As things fill up fast and early you are better off booking your Hotels in Bahrain and Car Rental in Bahrain as early as possible so that you can get the best prices available. It is also wise to book your flights to Bahrain as soon as you can for the same reason.

Any Hotel in Bahrain will provide quick and easy access to the cuircuit as Bahrain is quit a small country so Hotels in Manama,such as the Gulf Hotel in Seef or Muharraq will be acceptable. The only Hotel near the track is the Banyan Tree Spa, built in 2006, this may not appeal to all as it is far from central Manama and the nightspots.
