The Thrill of Bathurst

I have enjoyed watching the cars race around Bathurst at MountPanorama for the last 40 plus years, but had no idea how thrilling it must be for the race drivers.  Some cars reach up to three hundred kilometres and hour.  It makes you wonder how they could take some of these bends at high speed.

We decided to drive around it for ourselves although we did not speed.  We drove between fifty and sixty kilometres because we were also busy taking heaps of photos.

Even at that speed it was amazing.  You have to drive it your self to experience the sharpness of those bends and turns.  Also to see how high the road climbs and dips over this wonderful scenic mountain.  The view of the surrounding countryside is fantastic.

Bathurst Museum

This is well worth the entry fee, allowing you to wander around the many exhibits, photos, and actual cars and motorbikes from years gone by.  Enjoy movies of many different races from various displays around the museum.  They even allow you to take photos of these great memorabilia exhibits.

Police Patrol

Before you consider experiencing this for yourself, be warned.  The police often patrol this area to prevent them risking their lives speeding around it. Do not take the risk of being caught.

For two dollars you can obtain a coin to remind you of this truly great experience.

Or purchase posters of the drivers, tee shirts and various mementos.

Pictures do not do this justice.  You need to live this experience yourself and then wonder how the drivers do it lap after winding, climbing laps.

If you have the chance of driving on this track, do not miss out on this fantastic experience.

G'day Eileen, I never miss Bathurst on the TV but unfortunatly I have never done the circuit. It would have to be one of the best tracks in the World, and it must have given you a great thrill to do the tour.
