Flying cars? I think not.
Flying vehicles huh?
Why flying vehicles won't be mass produced in the near 10-30 years.
Flying vehicles, come on guys. There's a lot more than just take off and land.
Lets take into account, a few problems that will prevent the vehicles from being mass produced.
Security: Is it safe?
Obviously not. Think about it. You crash in mid air, those air bags aren't going to save you. Neither will a parachute. Debris could cause the chute to rupture. Even if the chute is successfully out, not everyone knows how to parachute down to safety
Fuel: How long will it run?
You have to consider that more fuel=more weight=difficult to take off. They would have to use something eco-friendly and light weight which can be stored in huge quantities for long distant travelling. If that can't be accomplished then you'd need to stop every ten minutes for fuel.
Flight path: Following patterns?
In order to execute a safe journey considering the number of car's that would be flying beside you, you'd have to follow a certain path. This will not be convenient because you won't be able to reach your destination directly, but you'd have to make a lot of turns and that will use up fuel...
Guidance: Who will alert you?
The obvious choice is an automated system with a lot of sensors around the vehicle to alert incoming vehicles, objects, storms etc... but come on. The forces of nature aren't always predictable. Think about the issues regarding military surveillance.
Crime rate: How much will it increase?
A lot of criminals would find that flying is better than driving because in mid air you don't find surveillance camera's.
Basically yeah, those are some rough ideas as to why you shouldn't keep your hopes up. The people say these vehicles will be released soon but its just another science fiction story waiting to be forgotten.
