Security Tips to Prevent Car Theft

It won’t be very difficult for professional car thieves to steal a car. But if necessary precautions are taken, it can be prevented to a great extend. The more care and importance you give to your car, lesser would be the chance of your car to get stolen. There are a number of security tips that you can adapt to discourage car thieves. Listed below are a few important among them.

Proper Locking: Most of the cars stolen are found to be unlocked. Some people even forget to take the key even though properly locked. This increases the chances of the car to be stolen. So make it a habit to lock your car even if you are getting out just for a minute.

Alarm Systems in Cars: If an alarm system is installed in your car, it will keep the car thieves away from your car. You can also make them aware that such a system is installed in your car, by using alarm stickers on the windows. Use a hidden battery for the alarm system since it’s very easy for car thieves to cut the battery cable from the alarm system. But make sure not to make others know what kind of alarm system is being used. Try to use a manual disconnect switch for it. Hide the switch in such a way that it would be very difficult to find it. At the same time it must be easy enough for you to use. You can also use indicators that can be visible from a far distance. These precautions can prevent the car from being damaged.

If there are too many vehicles parked in one area, it would be difficult to figure out the vehicle. So in such a situation a strobe light alarm indicator is a good option. They are also bright enough which is easily visible even during day time.

Wheel Locks: The theft of car tires and rims can be prevented by using separate wheel locks. The steering wheel can also be prevented from turning by using a long steering wheel lock. While purchasing a steering wheel make sure that you buy a good one which is very difficult to be removed. An ordinary steering wheel can be removed within a minute and can be replaced easily. The steering wheel can also be locked to the brake pedal by combining steering wheel and brake locks. Such a system prevents both the steering wheel and the brake pedal from being used.

Parking in well Lighted Areas: Most of the cars are stolen during night time or in unattended areas. So always park your car in a well lighted area. Car thieves usually prefer unattended parking areas where there are fewer chances of witnesses.

As soon as you return to your car after parking it somewhere, make sure that the tires, spare tires, battery etc are the same. The more precautions you take on your car to prevent theft will increase the time for thieves to steal it. So lesser is the chance for your car to get stolen. So to summarize the only way in which you can guarantee the protection of your car is to use the maximum precautions and higher level of security.

It's funny how many people leave their keys in their car, and get upset when their car is stolen. I'm glad you put that as your first tip. Voted up, marked as useful, and pinned!
