ISOFIX (known as LATCH, "Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children in the U.S.) is the standard ISO 13216, on the mounting system for a group of safety seats for children.
It defines standard attachment points that must be included in passenger seats allowing appropriate to be engaged quickly and safely.
Isofix is a better way to fix the seats with seat belts because it ensures that the attachment of the seat is correct by appropriate visual signals. Statistically, it was noted that by fixing the seat belt is incorrectly 80% of cases.
The seats are set up (a hook) and bottom (two). The set of three hooks is mandatory for new cars in the U.S. since September 2002. The auto manufacturers in Europe have called this kind of universal Isofix attachment to distinguish it from the previous version that semi-universal Isofix.
The semi-universal Isofix operate two berths at the base of the seat just as the universal Isofix, but instead of having a further high-level position, commonly known as top-tether, use an additional component, the so-called leg, which attaches to the base of seat and is in contact with the floor of the car. Exceptions are some models of semi-universal Isofix, that instead of using the top tether seat belts for passengers.
You can not mount a universal Isofix child seat in a car with a semi-universal Isofix attachment, devoid of engagement or higher, said top-tether. Conversely, you can mount a semi-universal Isofix car seat in a car equipped with Isofix attachment universal, unless contraindicated by the manufacturer.
The universal Isofix child seat type which have not been properly established using all three anchor points, and Isofix child seat type semi-universal coupled only through the two attacks at the base of the seat, are at risk of rollover in an accident.
More than 60% of children transported in cars with car seats is not protected properly. The restraint system is patented, the FAIR excludes any improper assembly. Highest score in the EuroNCAP tests for the G 0 / 1 ISOFIX, universal use for children from 0 to 18 kg
Improper mounting (misuse) of the child seat can cause serious injury to children. That this danger is very evident the show several studies in Europe. A study Bast (National Institute of German street) finds that over 60% of children in the car is protected poorly or incorrectly. 30% is due to improper installation.
The new system reduces the share of the FAIR mounting errors to zero. FAIR, a manufacturer of safety seats for cars, developed in collaboration with the automotive industry, a special restraint system that reduces the proportion of incorrect installation to zero.
This unique, patented platform Isofix child seat that fits in perfectly to their car, offers the highest attainable standard of security today. The peculiarity of the system adopted by FAIR it is divided into two parts, first part consists of the seat and a second part of a platform on which to place the car seat. This division results in easier installation and is also no possibility of error.
WITH ANTI-ROTATION DEVICE ISOFIX
The ISOFIX platform eliminates the rotation values much lower than ensuring the advancement of the head and a significant reduction of the acceleration.
ANTI-ROTATION DEVICE WITHOUT ISOFIX
Without the anti-rotation device ISOFIX all the energy produced during an accident resulting in an excessive rotation of the restraint, with negative effects with regard to the advancement of the head and the acceleration.
