Maruti Alto K10: Differences from old Alto, Reviews, Features and Prices.

Updated on September 4, 2010

Maruti Alto became the largest selling car in India in the year 2004. And after that there was no looking back, The average sales per month being 22000 units. And now Maruti is launching their new model, Alto K10. One shortcoming of this most fuel efficient vehicle was it’s 800c engine which is upgraded to 1000cc in K10, giving 45% increase in power with an increment of 50 kg in weight. The new Alto K10 will be the best competitor in A1 segment, while focusing is now more in A2 sections where cars like swift, i10, i20, ford figo, ritz, punto etc. are already competing.

The main noticeable visual changes of Alto K10 from old Alto are, a new chrome grille up front with wide slats and a deep V-like recess, New and large headlight, holding amber turn indicators. It will be available in both LXi and VXi trim and the VXi trim gets body coloured bumpers, fog lamps and very smart looking wheel covers.Even the rear of Alto K 10 is different due to A new rear glass, ovoid styled or dome shaped clear lens tail lamps and the number plate now sits on the back of the tailgate. The car has become 125 mm longer and now rests on 13 inch wheels.

Suzuki has redesigned the interior of the new Alto, everything including power steering to its instrumental panel. An internally adjustable ORVM, power windows for front passengers, remote boot opener, remote fuel lid opener, key reminder, new accessory socket and stylish gear knob being other attractions. Besides this there is The instrumental panel comes with tachometer, electronic meter and illuminated speedometer. Maruti has also made an attempt to improve legroom at the rear by some 50mm.

K series engine

The 998cc, three-pot engine develops 67 bhp@6000 rpm and 9.2 kgm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. Maruti Suzuki claims mileage of 20.2 kmpl for the Alto, making it the most efficient car in this category. The company claims a 0-100 kph time of 13.3 seconds, which is quicker than most hatches in even the B-segment and nearly as quick as Swift. The engine reaches 0-60kmph in 6.4 seconds. High speed stability is okay, as long as you don't cross 120 kph but not up to A Star. Has disc brakes at front and drum brakes at the rear. The fuel tank is 36 litre.

Ex-Show Room Prices

Maruti Alto K10 LXi - Rs 3.03 lakh, New Delhi
Maruti Alto K10 VXi - Rs. 3.16 lakh, New Delhi
Maruti Alto K10 LXi - Rs 3.18 lakh, Mumbai
Maruti Alto K10 VXi - Rs. 3.32 lakh, Mumbai

The Alto K 10 will be available in 6 colors namely, Sunlight Copper, Midnight Black, Fire Brick Red, Ecru Beige, Silky Silver and Superior White. Hope this improved version of Alto will continue the triumph of it’s predecessor.
