Car Rental Companies Consolidation of Ownership

Alamo  - Alamo launched the industry’s first real-time Internet booking engine in 1995 as well as the industry’s first and only Online Check-In. Alamo also is the largest car rental provider to international travelers visiting North America. In addition, it is part of a global strategic alliance with Europcar, creating the world’s largest car rental network

Avis - Avis Budget Group operates two of the most recognized brands in the global vehicle rental industry through Avis and Budget. An extended international reach that includes approximately 7,000 car and truck rental locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Caribbean and parts of Asia. On average, the rental fleet totaled more than 424,000 vehicles.

Budget – Same as avis except Budget also rents trucks.  A fleet of approximately 29,700 Budget trucks through a network of approximately 2,500 dealer-operated, 300 company-operated and 75 franchisee-operated locations throughout the continental United States. Approximately 3,800 locations by subsidiaries and sub-licensees of an independent third party primarily under royalty-free trademark license agreements

Dollar - Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. is a Fortune 1000 Company headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dollar and Thrifty have over 1,650 corporate and franchised worldwide locations including about 740 in the United States and Canada.

Enterprise - Founded in 1957 and headquartered in St. Louis, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is an internationally recognized brand with the largest fleet of passenger vehicles in the world today, more than 700,000 cars and trucks. Enterprise also operates a network of 6,000 neighborhood and airport rental locations in the United States, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Germany

Hertz - The Hertz Corporation is the second largest general-use car rental company in the world, with 1,900 locations in the United States and 5,100 worldwide

National - National Car Rental is a rental car company based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. National was founded by 24 independent rental car agents on August 27, 1947. It has grown from 60 locations in the United States in 1947 to over 2000 locations worldwide as of 2005.

Payless - Payless Car Rental, Inc. is a car rental company headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida. While mainly a franchise system, the company owns and operates several corporate locations. Payless Car Rental, Payless Car Sales, Payless Parking and REZlink International are sister companies under the umbrella of Avalon Global Group. Payless is a small company with 41 US locations and about 80 Worldwide.

    It seems like I have gotten the best prices for the car with Budget and I have been upgraded without asking a couple of times which is always nice.
