Sepang Go-Cart and the Caterham F1 Boys
Memoirs to Remember
Go-cart race, Giedo van der Garde, Alexander Rossi... OMG!
Thursday, 21st March 2013
Daddy, Lenny and I actually went to KL just for this F1. It was our first ever experience watching the F1 race or anything to do with the F1 race LIVE!
And so, we went down to the lobby and there they were. The three legendary #Tune cars! #TeamTuneTravel, #TeamTuneFly and #TeamTuneHoliday. Just so you know that #TeamTuneTravel's car is a Mini Cooper! #TeamTuneFly and #TeamTuneHoliday are Volkswagen. I like! Ha ha.
The three of us took TeamTuneHoliday's car! Zul was our chauffeur for the day. And there was a VIP sticker on the left of the windscreen too. :D
Ok, so when we arrived the Sepang Go-Cart, Mawarni was there to greet us. She's such a sweet lady, by the way. We registered our names for the go-cart, took our seats while waiting for the event to start.
So, I met Hsiao Wei and Devi earlier back in the hotel. I recognised Kenlli and there was another lady sitting beside him. I thought he brought along his sister but heck, it was actually Yee Pee. Haha. XD
Ok, so I didn't know that we were also in the race with the other Tune people; Tune Hotels and the media too! It was my first time in a go-cart car and I was super excited about it. Not that sure how it felt like then. We were given a shower-cap like to tuck our little fine hair in. Had the helmet on a that's when it happened.
Mother nature decided to add some spice to the race by showering some love upon us for about half and hour. Spoke to some nice people like Josh (Media), Cilia, Peter Miller, Mawarni and some I can't recall their names! So sorry.XD
So, when the rain stopped, we got into the go-carts. I took number 24! No particular reason. It was just near me. I had a problem in mind though. "How the heck do I get into this thing?!" I didn't know where to step, how to adjust my legs after sitting and such. But all was fine afterwards.
Heck, I never knew that to start the car, they had to pull the ummm... grass-cutter-engine-starter like string. The engine gave my whole body and brain a long, lasting vibe effect. When I was on the track, it felt funny but cool! Almost bumped into a few people on the first turns. "Ran over" the chicane to avoid collision and also made me went wide and spun many times. But it was good fun! End of Practice Session.
Qualifying round or not, it doesn't matter much to me then, cos it felt so much excitement to sit in the car itself! I can't recall the car number I was in but it felt so much different from the first car I sat in. Everything felt too smooth that I spun more than the first car I was in, No. 24. The accelerator felt further and I had to slouch a little in order to get a full forced kick to it. And it was here too that Daddy had an engine failure. Ha ha. And I came in in the 7th place. :D
A Cup of Tea
So, there was a short break before the final round. OMG but I saw van den Garde. I recognised the guy at first and was like, "Omg omg. I need to tell Dwayney!" But I took a liking in Rossi instead. Wished if Pic were there too. <3
There was a Q&A going on. I couldn't think of anything to ask any of them. Then, Mr. EmCee guy turned to me and asked me if I had a question for the guys. I thought the two guys were going to be with us, racing in the go cart, so I asked a question that I believe they were super lost too. Ha ha. And my question was, "Please let me win," although I have no intentions of winning the whole race. But at least a nice race with the two and at least if I could be ahead of them. So, van den Garde gave an awkward, lost answer too. It's one of those anime moments where everyone gets lost in the conversation with that quiet ambience, one-drop of sweat appear above the head thing. Punch line. XD
If only I said, "Can I have your email," instead.
GOD, WHY HAVE YOU NOT PLANTED THAT QUESTION IN MY HEAD?!!?!?
But guess what? I hugged Alex Rossi. Omg omg! XD
Ok, so shame was over. Off to the Final Race!
The last league of the race!
This time, I had my lucky number 7 car and to my surprise, this car wasn't too smooth nor was it to hard (car number 24 hard had a hard grip on the steering wheel and the second car was toooo smooth). Lucky 7 car also never spun the whole time. I was impressed. Best part of the race was that it really was a competition! I was focused on the track, speeding my rounds and way to the chequered flag. The whole time on the track, I only had one thing in mind. It felt like I was racing for my appointments. Ha ha. I felt so sorry for Kenlli cos I kept going wide and hit him a few times. Oh and the other Tune Hotel guy too. If you guys are reading this, SO SORRY!
So, the race ended and I was at number 7 still. Wasn't upset or anything cos it was thrilling fun! During the prize giving ceremony, Kenlli was announced third. I was second and Devi, first. I thought it was cool and sweet of the organisers to have this surprise for us. I didn't know that they'll be giving trophies too. It was indeed a sweet, sweet memory.
Check out my other Hub which tells the story of the very contest that brought me to this extraordinary event. :D
