Fun at The Track

When I first went to a Talladega, Alabama to watch a race in 1999, it was really entertaining to see that the race was just one of the many things happening at the Nascar Track. It has campers pitching tents and lots of RV's! There are fires burning, music blasting and of course, all while the race is going on. Even if someone hates racing, they will change their mind once they attend the events in Talledega.

Whether you are a race car fan or not, you will truly have a blast at the Talladega races. It's a constant party. It's like a rock concert and a sporting event all rolled into one. Whether you are a fan or not this is an entertaining time. Music, food, spirits and sports.

I would suggest strong parental supervision with young children. Some fans get a little wild when letting their hair down. There's usually a lot of drinking so, to be on the safe side, watch the other drivers all around you if you leave the race when the traffic is at it's peak.

Fun in the Sun

During the daylight hours they have snack shops set up all around the track and you can find everything from hot dogs and hamburgers to cotton candy and alcoholic beverages for sale. Of course, you can also buy hats, shirts and other racing gear for the event.

Nighttime Fun

Bonfires are lit everywhere and it's the perfect time to roast marshmallows and enjoy the fire. Shops surround the stadium that sell hats and shirts of your favorite drivers and of course, if you choose to camp out it is standard to decorate your tint with your race car favorite. People also cook out with fish fry cookouts and BBQ cookouts.

The sound system is amazing and can be heard clearly from a block away. If you replace the live musicians with race car drivers you have Woodstock all over again. It is a good time at the Talladega Super Speedway in Alabama because, whether you like racing or not, the party is on. Also, after the races the track has an area where it's possible to hear driver post race interviews and if your lucky, an opportunity to meet some of Nascar's finest drivers. Many of the drivers are fan friendly and will take the time to shake hands and even sign autographs. It's really a nice surrounding and the track is fun even if your not a big fan of racing in general.

Facts about the Super Speedway

1. It opened in 1969 and it is longest oval track in Nascar with a total length of 2.66 miles.

2. The stadium holds 175,000 fans in it's bleachers.( Usually more than that are scattered all over the grass and areas around the track.

3. The race track was built directly on top of an Air Force base. Their is a sign describing ypthis at the stadium..

4. It has a start line that is closer to the first turn than any other Nascar track.

5. The total price to build the Super Speedway in 1968 was four million dollars.

Racing Continues To Grow

Racing which started out as a southern and mid western niche` sport which is now huge all over America. Millions of fans flock to the track and the television set every time there is a Nascar event of any kind. The sports flourishes with the sales of tickets from the races, and the merchandise sales and it continues to grow as a huge spectator sport. Safety measures have improved in Nascar to help prevent accidents.

Racing is a tradition in the south and in the Midwest but, it has grown nationally and it is finally gaining momentum globally. One thing is for sure and that is that Alabama and several surrounding states go crazy and flock to the track when Talladega weekend arrives. Traffic nearly comes to a stand still. Pizza, wings and other food is constantly being delivered to the stands for the fans to munch on. Of course other food is for sale on site and outside the stands, fans bring their on snacks and grills to cook.
