A Car Care Must Have: The Best Microfiber Towels

Updated on October 1, 2014

Here we go. I was looking for the best car care products I could get my hands on, including the processes that come with these products. One product that is a vocal point in the car care industry is the microfiber cloth. Its actually big in multiple industries- I just wanted to be a tad dramatic. The microfiber cloth is used to wipe down and dry the exterior of the car. These are also used in shoe care. These towels are smooth and keep the dirt off your car. You want to make sure the dirt is off- not only because you want to say clean but dirt can cause minor scratches.

Microfiber towels are towels made of a special blend of fibers often polyester combined with polyamide or a certain type of nylon fiber. Unlike microfiber items intended to repel moisture, the processing of the nylon and polyester used for towel fabric makes the microfiber highly absorbent. It can absorb between five and seven times its weight in liquid. When combined with the fact that the fabric is long-wearing, hand and bath towels made of fiber are the best choice.

Texture, Different Sizes and Weights

It should be noted that microfiber towels are available in different sizes and weights. However the smallest sized micro fiber towels measure approximately 8"× 8"(20cm×20cm) weighing about 300grams per square meter. On the other hand the largest sized varieties measure roughly 24"× 36"(60cm×90cm) weighing about 400grams per square meter. Those that weigh as much as 400 grams per square meter are the best brands in this product line that are known to perform best. This is because weight contributes to the expected product life of these towels with heavy weights yielding longer product life. Microfiber towels are soft to the touch due to the denier of the fabric itself. NB/ Denier is a textile measurement used to describe the fineness of a fiber, the lower it is the finer the fiber.

How To Use Microfiber Towels

Microfiber towels can be used depending on the type of application they are intended for. For buffing up, ensure the towel is completely dry and hold it firmly in your palm. In a circular or back and forth motion buff off the polish or wax from the dirty surface.

N/B: Avoid using intense pressure when buffing off as this may result in fine scratches on the wiped surface. For dusting, gently wet the towel and wipe with it along its surface area. Once you have used your towel, thoroughly wash and air it out to dry.

While there are several brands of these towels on the market not all of them often have better performance just like any other product. It is therefore imperative for a buyer to only go for the perfect types. Here are 3 brands of best microfiber towels available on the market today
