It is Easy to get Personalised Registration Plates?

Buying private plates can be for personalisation or profit, read on to learn more.

When considering whether to treat yourself and your beloved car or motorbike to a personalised registration plate there are a variety of different reasons that may sway your decision. The purchase of the plates in the UK could not be easier now. There is a multitude of online websites offering to sell you the plates but also expanding on that and offering to deal with the DVLA on your behalf. They deal with the DVLA to ensure the correct documentation is administered, which leaves you with the simple task of paying the fee. Across the globe multiple sites exist where you can search for numberplates for your licencing area.

There are millions of plates on their databases, you can search for whatever you want, and they will give you the closest matches they can find. The search will yield multiple results but if what you are looking for is not there, you can then contact one of the companies on their phone lines. The offer for the right price to try to source your specified plate or a very near match to it. The prices vary enormously depending on what you are looking. There are some plates available at around one hundred pounds whilst others cost in excess of fifty thousand pounds. It all depends on what you are looking for and exactly how much you are willing to spend.

Use Private Plates to Stand Out for the Crowd

A main motivation is to make your car stand out from the ordinary and be noticed. The variety of plates available means that almost all initials, names and hobbies are covered. So if you want the world to know your name and date of birth, they will.

Hobbies are also fully covered. The avid golfer amongst us may opt to show everyone something that is a fundamental part of his life and display his hobby for all to see on his number plate.

It is even possible to have your full first name on the registration, if it is short enough. Putting their business name or type is a popular choice for business owners. After their initial investment the number plate is memorable and providing them with free advertising every time that they are mobile.

Hiding the Age of your Car

One of the most popular reasons for people to purchase the plates is to hide the age of their car. A well-maintained older car that is quite rightly the owner's pride and joy, can find a new lease of life. It can appear newer when its plates are changed and if it is, a model of car with minimal design change over the years the real age of the car maybe a well kept secret.

Buying Plates as a Gift for Special Birthdays and Anniversarys

One interesting reason people have for putting the plates on their cars is to remember a special year. Some people have a year in the past, which is very special to them. They may want to remember a wedding, the birth of a child or even a special anniversary. The plate allows them to remember the significance it has for them and to display it for all to see. These people may also opt to put an older plate on a newer car to capture the memory of their special year.

Buying private plates as a gift is definitely an individual present and can prove inspirational when it is difficult to find something that is just right for those special occasions. The plates needed to mark key birthdays like an 18th or 21st birthday are readily available and even weddings can be honoured with the right lettering.

Registration Plates as an Investment Opportunity

A growing but less obvious reason to buy personalised plates is as an investment opportunity. Due to the rising demand for them in recent years, they are now viewed by some as a means to generate some extra income.

The current economic slump has meant savings account return rates are not what they were. In light of this some people have found a new outlet to invest their money. The purchase of certain in demand plates now, is hoped to yield a large investment return in the future when the investor chooses just the right moment to resell the number.

The Mysterious History of the Automobile

Your Reasons to buy will be as Unique as you are

So buying personalised number plates is something very individual. It can provide a means to hide the age of your car or indeed remind you of a year, which was special in your life. When purchased for others it can provide a lasting, very personal gift and it will always evoke memories of a special date or word. Surprisingly some people now also view it as an investment opportunity.

In summary, many good reasons exist for buying the personalised plates and there are so many widely available now that you should be able to find one just right for you. Your own reasons for purchasing and placing that special number on your vehicle will be as unique as you are.

Interesting question - I've never thought about it before, but you're right, there seems to be lots of different reasons why someone might personalise a number plate.

My only request is to make it something everyone can understand. What's the point of a personalized plate when only 3 people know what it means? "DFT4JTY" means absolutely NOTHING and you've wasted my time trying to read and understand it. Jerk. :P

On another note, I was going to get "FGHTCLB" as a plate once, but I decided it was best that I didn't.

      Great hub, Anna!

For whatever reason, I've never considered buying personalized license plates. I'm sure at one time or another I had a good reason, but it escapes me now. :)
