The reasoning is behind the basic design, all the suv's use similar body types with parts that could be made by the same company. A good example is the Ford Escape and the Mazda Tribute, they both use almost the same engine with only different design about them. Lots of the issues that arise from the Escape are also found on the Mazda. Also, the problems arise because no matter how much testing a model goes through it never is fully what happens once thousands of people use them for years. Sometimes problems are caused by parts that work fine for 3-5 years then tend to start weaking etc.
