I am hitting the half century mark in a couple of months. I try to make my cars last as long as possible.
My first car was a Mercury Marquis (think i was a 85 and got it in 1992)-had to replace the motor on it because I was inexperienced and drove it with a blown head gasket.
When I got a lot of miles on it my husband took over that car and gave me his Oldsmobile Cavalier because it was in better shape and I had a long commute
When I got about 160000 miles on it started having transmission problems and traded it in. Plus I found that with 4 cylinder cars the engines do not last.
Next car in 1997 was a 1993 Ford Taurus-retired that after 280,000 miles. Many mechanical problems during the life of this car. Ford+ Found on Road Dead and Fix Or Repair Daily.
In 2003 got a 2001 Chevy Blazer. Had to retire it at 310,000 miles because the check engine light wouldn't got out.
In 2010 got a 2000 Chevy Malibu, when it reached 250,000 miles gave it to my daughter (I bought this used at 100,000 miles). I really can't complain, Sandy-as my daughter calls it-has some issues but I can't complain about a car that is over 15 years old.
2014 got a 2013 Chevy Impala.
So I have just over 10 years to go before I hit 60 and I foresee that I will have at least 2 more cars before I retire. Will stick to Chevy,
