Turbo diesel engines create more power and use less fuel than even hybrid cars. They also don't have the unfortunate little problem of having batteries that cannot be disposed of safely. The batteries in hybrids have to be changed and they pose a threat almost as big as nuclear waste when it comes to the disposal of them. In Europe, my brothers VW 4 door sedan gets over 55 MPG and produces less polution than a Prius by a lot. Hybrids are a great concept, we just do not have the technology yet to make them safe for the environment.
