If square rings perform poorly in dynamic sealing envirionments why do many brake calipers use them?

Are you considering operating pressures greater than 1500 psi when you made this generalization? Also under the same conditions (same groove design) which seal - o-ring or square seal - will provide for the gratest piston retraction? That is under similar conditions which design lends itself to pulling the caliper piston back into the caliper body when the pedal is released?
