Novelty Car Horns -- Yes or No?

Novelty Car Horns -- Yes or No?

Are musical car horns and other novelty horns fun or annoying? Some people love them, but do they encourage irresponsible and unnecessary honking? Debate it!

My opinion?

I don't think it's necessarily wrong to have a novelty car horn, but think about how often horn honking is actually needed and appropriate. If you only honk at the proper times, you probably wouldn't be getting your money's worth from your musical horn. On the other hand, if all of your friends and neighbors have heard your "Star Trek" theme song horn, then you are almost certainly honking too often.

The real reason for the car horn is to use as an alert in dangerous situations. Is "La Bamba" the appropriate song to play at those times?

I was once stopped by the police in Australia and they discovered that my horn did not work. They made me go and buy one from a bicycle shop and strap it to my driver's door mirror. It was one of those ones that you squeeze and it honks. Every time I wanted to sound the horn, I had to unwind the window, lean out and squeeze the horn!
