3 Newbie Marketer Mistakes to Avoid

Updated on September 30, 2012

Advice...

When new to online marketing, there are 3 common mistakes to avoid. Being aware of them is the first step to avoiding them. They are so easily made, yet very hard to recover from. Online marketing is highly competitive. Avoiding these mistakes will put you on the right path, with the right perspective, and expectation for a successful experience. If you are serious about being a profitable online marketer, avoiding these 3 things alone will give you a better edge on your competition.

Not Having a Niche

It's absolutely necessary to have a niche if you want to be profitable. What are your hobbies, interests, or activities? What do you consider yourself an expert at? These are things to take into consideration before making your presence online known. If you fail to come up with a good niche to start with, you'll quickly succumb to defeat. To succeed in this arena you MUST have a niche (or 2, or 5). Focus on one at a time though. Do your research. Is there a need for more information in your chosen niche? Does it appear to be old information, and you have new fresh material? Again, ask yourself what are the consumers consuming? Can one niche feed off another? You don't want to repeat information in a highly saturated area. Just a few things to consider when choosing your niche, but choose you must.

Rushing the Process

Let's be honest, most marketers are first attracted to the thoughts of "making money online", or the most popular "work from home" freedom. The hype surrounding online marketing leads most to believe you can become an online marketing success story overnight. Epic FAIL! It's good to get excited about online marketing, or the product/service you're promoting. However, don't be disillusioned by the "idea" of making money. It is WORK, it takes WORK to make MONEY. What those big profiteers aren't telling you is how much of their time and money was spent to make that kind of money in the first place. That's right, it takes money to make money. There is no magic formula, or faster way to get desired results. There is just the "potential" to make money by online marketing. Like everything else, there are no REAL guarantees. Getting stuck on the profitability aspect can lead to frustrations that one can avoid. Rest assured that if you build it, they will come. It's a slow train, but if you keeping fueling it, it will get you to your destination. Relax and enjoy sharing the information with others. You can't force success. If it's meant to happen, it will. Seeds that are watered, and cared for usually grow into beautiful flowers. Nothing happens overnight.

Not Original

Nobody likes repetition. Repeating the same old used up material is going to get you nowhere. It's easy to find free content online just by searching the internet. But trust that if you went that route, somebody else before you beat you to it. How can you tell? You found the content right? Point made! Going back to your niche idea and asking the above questions should aide in choosing a good niche. Content should absolutely be original. When using free content, use it to inspire your own ideas. Fresh, new, original content is key to your niche idea being successful. Don't sell yourself short in this area, your success depends on it.

Enjoy Your Online Marketing Journey!
