5 Resume Tips
One of the first steps in getting a job is making sure that you have a great resume that showcases all your wonderful skills. If your resume is not up to date you may not get the job of your dreams. If your resume does not show the skills that your potential boss is looking for you will not get the job. So brush up on your resume skills and make sure that your resume is up to date when you are looking for a job.
-
Update your address and phone number on your resume. You would be surprised at how many people forget to do this. They will give an old cell phone number, and the employer will try to call and get a disconnect notice. The address will be wrong, and the employer will invite you to an open house and you won't show up. Keeping this information current is crucial.
-
Write an objective that will grab your reader's attention. Think about why you want the job they are offering and write an objective that will show that you have paid attention to what they need, and that you have a reason for wanting the job.
-
Show that you have skills related to the job that you want. If the job is for a cashier, talk about any money related skills you have, and customer service skills. If the job is for a human services job talk about your skills related to that job.
-
Beef up your educational experiences. Remember to put in all of your education, and any awards you may have won. If you did not win rewards add the classes that you took which are related to the job you want. This is especially helpful for people who have just entered the job market.
-
Print out your resume on the nicest paper you can buy. Employers appreciate quality paper and a resume that is easy to read. Do not use brightly colored paper to print out your resume. Loud colors hurt the eyes and employers don't normally like them. Do not use fancy font. Use font that lets the employer easily skim over your resume without having their eyes hurt.
Use these tips to help your resume make it to the top of your potential employer's pile of resumes. Your resume is the first information that is presented to a potential employer so make sure that it is up to par and that you have made it as interesting a resume as possible.
