8 things to know to be a good freelancer
1. Reputed sites
Make an account on one of the reputed sites like elance, odesk, etc. Do a background research on them.
I prefer ODESK (now called Upwork) which I have been using for years. The elance is also a very good place to start freelancing.
2. Profile picture
Upload a profile picture on your account (They usually suggest you to have a smiling photo)
3. Skill Tests
Give skill tests. They offer you hundreds of skill tests like java test, python test, English language test, microsoft office test, etc to name a few.
According to current trend, clients usually offer tasks more to those freelancer who have passed the corresponding skill test with good points.
4. Update Profile
Having a great profile definitely gives you a plus point. Don’t try to make it too complex to understand. Make sure you include your skills that you are good at.
5. Wise bidding
Read the requirements clearly and then only apply for a job. Clients love to have a good understanding and easy freelancers. So don’t send proposal for job which you have no idea with.
6. Key factor
Don’t give up- the main problem. What I have seen most often in the freelancing sites is that, people bid for one or two projects and just wait for the response. And when they don’t get (which is most likely at first), they give up the whole process. So the only solution to this is to keep on bidding on jobs that suits you.
7. Delivery Time
Deliver works in time. As the reviews are given by clients (and also you can give to them), make sure you impress client. The main factor to impress is to deliver work on time. If the project needs more time than expected, make sure your client understands that and is okay with your request.
8. Response Time
Respond as soon as possible. Clients usually interview as many candidates as possible. So when you are late to reply, you probably won’t get the project. They want to know that you are available and online any moment.
