A promotion in a job place

Updated on July 15, 2013

Doesn't it feel great when you have worked so hard in your job for many years and you are told you have a promotion and you will get higher pay? I know that it feels great because it makes me feel good and helps me realize that I am capable of more then just what I was doing already in the work place. In some places it isn't so easy to get a promotion and so it may take a little while to finally reach the promotion that one really wants after so many years or months, depending on how long you have been in the work place.

Just from my own experience, I tried several times to get into a higher job position because I knew that I could do the job. But with working for the city there is always a procedure to follow when it comes to moving up a position within the department that you are working in. For me, it took a while but it was worth the wait and the many interviews that I had to go to. This is a stepping stone in my life and I'm sure it is a stepping stone to so many people who get a promotion wherever they work.

With a promotion comes a raise and we can always be thankful for a good raise, there is nothing like having some extra cash in your pocket after using up most of the paycheck. However, with a promotion comes many more responsibilities that you did not happen to have when you were in that former position at work. But who says that they can't do those new responsibilities? If you are able to do the duties then, you can do them now whatever they may be.

Having to relocate to just get the promotion is also something that happens. Maybe you are not relocating out of the city you live in, but just to another building from that same company you work for. We all know that may happen, but when one thinks about it, it is worth it if you know that it is something you want to do in the long run. This may even help a person meet new people and just see how it feels to work in a different setting than they were used too.

I know I am happy for the promotion I got and having to move was something I was willing to do and I'm sure others would do the same when it comes to that nice promotion. The way our economy is now, it is wise to say yes to a promotion whether it be where you may be working at or even outside of where you are working. Just know that in the end, one works hard to get where they are now and where they may be in the future.

Willing to relocate when it comes to accepting a promotion?

That is true because one had to see if that is what they really want to do.

Just the word promotion sounds exciting. However, the cases are different and sometimes the money is not worth the change. You have to evaluate the situation and make your best judgement.
