Alert: Reasons you should Never Visit Readbud.com

Updated on January 10, 2011

Readbud.com is a website that offers to pay you for just reading articles and rating them. 10 cents per article. So, you can read/skim an article and rate for $6/hour, from the comfort of your home - not bad, but don't get excited...

From Experience, let me share the true “benefits”.

  • As soon as you rate the first article – your computer will beep to notify you that you have a virus.
  • Whatever website you click on will show on your browser but on the screen you will not be given access to the page, unless you buy an “anti virus Software” from a strange company showing on your screen.
  • If you keep on clicking and trying to get rid of it. A screen asking you to buy Viagra will then appear. So, you can’ t access the internet but strangely the Viagra website manages to show.

In Summary, you can do nothing but access your word documents and others. If this happens to you, immediately back up your docs on a USB (I'm glad i did this) because by the time you repair your computer it would have corrupted everything – no data retrievable. My friend said it was so sophisticated, it knew everything people would do, to try and repair it and would block all actions. It has also been confirmed by other online friends of mine, as being a Malicious website.

Thanks for the heads up Lady_E. I can't believe you had to find out this was a malicious site the hard way. I think it's dispicable that there are people out there that have nothing better to do than figure out ways to screw up computers. I really appreciate you sharing this with the hub pages community. Happy New Year and safe surfing to you:)

Elena, so it goes with many of these malicious little monsters which is why I dumped McAfee and Norton AntiVirus and now run (with extreme confidence) Vipre AntiVirus. It is a tremendous package which is consistently and constantly on top of these things. I lost the use of my system for four business days relative to a vicious virus package which overran McAfeee and Norton. It previously buried the PCTools AntiVirus. I'd heard some nasty stuff about the pasckage you mentioned and so figured I'd stay right here on HP.

** Thanks Minnetonka - I learnt some lessons.

** Cheers Rhonda - Good to know you will remember the name.

** Thanks for stopping by DeBorrah. As you noted, it is scary what these people can do - they are very sophisticated in a bad way.

** Hi Steffer - glad you stopped by and confirmed the reality of this bad virus. Thanks

** Cheers Mentalist Acer - I'd even stay away from Sworm.com too. Thanks for sharing. Ps. It couldn't be restored, they had to reformat it. I managed to save some files on USB when the virus kicked in.

** Hi Unchained Grace - sorry to know you experienced something similar and lost the use of your Pc for 4 days. I actually couldn't bear that and sent a text message to a handful of people in my church to see if anyone could help me out. I am so grateful that the next day someone brought me their laptop to use while mine was being repaired. Its good to go to church. Can I hear an "Amen". Thanks for stopping. :)

Hello Lady E. I know Readbud well, after falling for them. It was doing fine as I racked up about $1 a day, dreaming of a quick $50 payout. When I got to about $30 all their screen blockers began, or some mildly suggestive video would appear. Took a while to figure out how to get rid of this evil program that took over my computer.

Hmm, this is interesting. I personally have tried readbud for a few months now. I have not experienced it the way you did. I use Google chrome when logging into the site. One time there were ads popping up each and every click that I make on it. I installed the Google chrome adblocker and no more ads appeared.

I would look at TRIOND one of these days, thanks so much!

This sounds horrible, thank you for telling me about this. I've never heard about this before but getting paid just to read articles does sound a little too good to be true. Is this a website that authors can post on as well, or is it only a site that you register on in order to read articles and make money.

Again thanks for looking out for the hubpages community.

From the short time I visited, I observed it's a place where you read articles and rate them. I got the Virus about 5 minutes after rating the first article.

      Thanks for stopping.
