Amazon Affiliate Success with HubPages (Begin Affiliate Marketing with Amazon Associate Program)

Updated on September 20, 2016

Why Amazon Associates?

There are quite many companies that allow you to be their affiliate or associate, but personally I believe Amazon outranks all of them. Mainly because Amazon is trustworthy and you never have to worry about being scammed. Also Amazon has a million and one products you can promote, which is not a luxury you would enjoy with another affiliate company.

Also becoming an Amazon associate is very easy, you don't even need a website. A simple blog would be sufficient. But a blog would not earn you anything within 5 years time. And I'm going to teach you how to start making money from Amazon associates quickly and fairly easily.

Watch this to get an idea about Amazon affiliate program

Amazon Associates home page

How to begin...

First up you need to visit the Amazon Associate sign up page and sign up with the program. You should be accepted in no time.

Secondly you need to sign up with HubPages. HubPages is the site you are reading this article on. There are specific reasons why you should sign up with HubPages and not any other similar sites.

Browse through HubPages and get familiar with the site. There are certain specific requirements for writing on here and you must adhere to all of them.

You must setup your Amazon affiliate settings here on HubPages to earn as an affiliate. Go to 'My Earnings Settings' page and click on configure button near Amazon under 'External Affiliate Setting'. There provide your unique Amazon affiliate ID (Tracking ID) given to you by Amazon when you registered with the affiliate program.

Why HubPages?

Did you notice the Amazon product link above? That's exactly why. HubPages gives us a special tool to link Amazon products within our HubPages hubs. Since our Amazon affiliate ID already given to HubPages we only have to provide the product ID that is displayed on the Amazon product details page.

For the above book the two codes are;

  • ISBN-10: 148395109X
  • ISBN-13: 978-1483951096

From these two either number will work for the HubPages Amazon capsule. Amazon capsule is the tool that you will use when you need to display an Amazon product of your choice.

Every purchase made through clicking on such displayed product will be your earnings.

You can either choose a specific product through giving them the product ID or type in keywords for your product and it will automatically display the best matches on Amazon for your keywords.

Affiliate marketing on a new website?

Associating your Amazon links with a content writing site like HubPages is a sure fast and easy way to start off your affiliate marketing.

Let's assume you decide to start affiliate marketing with a new website owned by you. First of all, your site will be new and will have no 'establishment' within the internet and it is highly unlikely that your website will show up in search results. Which means no sales will be made. Also building a new website from scratch is a lot of work and to promote each and every product will take you years before you make any significant income. Since we are trying to get things done fast, a new website is out of the question.

Let's assume you buy an existing website (created specifically for affiliate marketing). First of all this would cost you a considerable amount of money to buy the website and maintain it and keep it running annually. So you will have to make a revenue exceeding all these costs. This will not be an easy task. Also you will have a lot of work to do promoting your products, website, getting inbound links, getting social network links etc. So yeah, for a year or two you are bound to make losses.

That's why you need HubPages...

So if you are still convinced that you are good with a new website, do go ahead. It would work eventually.

So if you are convinced HubPages is the solution, read on.

Advantages of using HubPages...

  • HubPages has good search engine ranking - as soon as your hubs are 'featured' they will get a good search engine ranking. Which means if your hub content and quality is good, there's a very high chance that your hub will rank at 1-5 in search engine results, which is pretty amazing and mandatory for a good traffic flow.
  • HubPages has good PageRank - HubPages currently has a PageRank of 6 out of 9 which is a very good accomplishment. PageRank determines how worthy a website is on the Internet. And based on this PageRank search engines will select the best search results to display. So your hubs will get an exposure like no other similar website.
  • HubPages is trustworthy - HubPages staff is trustworthy and the long term survival of the site is guaranteed. So your efforts will not be in vain the next year.
  • HubPages has other earning opportunities - you will not be stuck with Amazon links. But based on the number of views you get on your hubs, you will earn a share of income from HubPages and if you associate an AdSense account along with it you will earn from that too. So even if your Amazon sales disappoint you, there will be some relief.

So why is this all important?

Because traffic (or views) on your hubs will be everything. Traffic will create sales. Let me give you an personal experience tip.

Since the very first hub I had published here I had included Amazon products relating to the article content. So if I wrote an article about a game I played I would include Amazon links for the game, and maybe expansions of the game etc. (It is important that you only include Amazon links to products that are related to the article content, else it will be considered spam and you will get banned)

So initially my hubs had no to very little traffic and there were no Amazon sales. But I did continue writing hubs and promoting existing hubs. So after a few months my traffic began to grow and right now I receive around 2,000 - 2,500 page views per day on all my hubs. And this has lead to a jump in Amazon sales on a daily basis. But the interesting part is that sales reports show products being sold which I did not include links for.

So what does that mean?

It means that people are going to Amazon through my links and are buying different products they browse. It doesn't matter if they do not buy the exact same product I promote. Any and every sale is a sale.

So since the boost in traffic, I have made 15 sales this month for the 8 days spent (08/12/2013). This is pretty encouraging. And I have a click-to-sales conversion ratio of 5%.

I think it is pretty clear that it's not really about what products you place on your hubs. It is a matter of getting enough traffic on your hubs. And to get traffic you will need the support of all the advantages of HubPages I have mentioned above.

The HubPages always snip my Amazon product links. I add only those products which I have described in article. What I need to do to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thank you so much... Voted up :) I stumbled across this hub in need of some advice...The moths are literally flying out of my Associates account I have been so depressed. Worse yet your account can be closed after 90 days due to lack of sales activity. (You can reapply, but that can be tiresome. I have already done it once. ) So as you can see I will take any help I can get :)

Great hub with useful information. I've made very little money with my AA account for my book review blog (two in one month) in 9 months, while I've made zip with Amazon and ebay over here. Great insight. Voted up!

      LOL. That's a good question.

First thing you must arrange your hub titles 'properly'. Google LOVES titles. Basically you have to imagine how/what you would type in Google if you wanted to find something about the content you are about to write. For an example take my hub "Top 5 Best Real Time Strategy Games (Games Like Age of Empires)". You will see that this is not really a creative or a beautiful title. But it is ranked number ONE on Google if you search for 'best real time strategy games'. And that will be what most people will be typing in Google if they wanted to find out the best real time strategy games available. This hub alone makes 1,000+ views per day. Some less successful hubs generate around 200 views per day. And don't worry I do have hubs that make even 0 views per seven days. Use the Title Turner on such blogs and experiment. If you need more specific assistance contact me via email.

Some great information here, but what I'd really like to know is how you can get over 2000 views per day from 59 hubs. I have 35 hubs; all featured and all targeting specific keywords, yet I get an average of under 150 views per day.

I have made a few Amazon sales, like you, products not related to the Hub topic but I guess a sale is a sale!

Yes, please do try them. Worked for me. I have made 21 sales up to date this month (12/12/2013). This bump is specially due to Christmas season. But a consistent rate prevails throughout the year anyway.

      Thanks for your comment.

HubPages is really helpful to kick-start Amazon affiliate sales. Now I have given up all other promotional methods such as blogging, Pinterest, Twitter etc. of course I do share my hubs on them. But not direct products. And I've had more success this way.

This is all very true and helpful; HP ranks well and a writer will get more traffic to a Hub, generally, than to his or her own site. Amazon is an easy-to-use affiliate program too that's reputable with many products to choose from. Thanks for another useful Hub on optimizing content and sales.
