Ironically Avon was founded by a gentleman by the name of David H. McConnell in the 19th Century. Not many women worked outside the home, in 1886 it was only 20% of all women. David was the son of an Irish immigrant and grew up on a farm. He started his career as a bookseller selling door to door. But later on, he would become a perfume entrepreneur which has given women the opportunity to establish their own businesses, and then later become known as "direct selling".
In his earlier years while selling his books he had a unique concept, it was to leave a bottle of perfume with the women, in hopes they would purchase his books. He actually made these fragrances himself which served as "door openers". But he noticed that the women were more interested and loved the fragrances more than they did his books. This was the beginning of the "California Perfume Co". which was later changed to "Avon" in 1939, and is now the Fortune 500 Company of today.
The first Avon Representative was Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, a 50 year old wife and mother of two children. This legendary Mrs. Albee is still considered a role model forAvonRepresentatives today. She is credited with creating the company's system for "direct selling" of products.
To this day Avon has provided the earnings opportunity to many individuals so they can achieve financial independence.

My Avon Story
Avon is not just for mom anymore. This 125 year old cosmetic and fragrance empire now features a new product line for the younger at heart - called "Mark" products. This product line which was introduced in 2003, has some truly "hot" and fabulous colors, designer jewelry and apparel, and the younger crowd loves it.
I never dreamed I would ever be a salesperson. I certainly didn't consider myself one in real estate. The way I looked at my real estate profession was like this, people had a need and I had the means in which they could obtain it. I would show clients homes (this was the fun part) and then I would offer information and details. Then if they were interested, I would write the contract and begin the negotiations.
