Do Your Product Research For More Ebay Sales

If you've got items stockpiled around the house, basement, garage or shed that are in good to excellent condition, you can easily turn those items into cash. Before I list anything on EBay, I want to find out how much the item is worth. Since I sell clothing, I do a quick EBay search of completed items( look under Refine and check the boxes that say Completed Listings and Sold) that are the same brand and type as my item.

Be as specific as possible. Let's say I have a pair of unworn Aeropostale Chelsea Skinny Boot Jeans. Type "Aeropostale Chelsea Skinny Boot Jeans" into the Search box and look at the completed listings. The sales price of Sold Items should appear in green.

Unsold items are listed in red. There's no point in looking at unsold items. Those items might have been overpriced or poorly described.

Use successful listings as a template and pick out keywords those sellers mention that make their listings standout. Look at the sold items pictures and notice their quality. Better sellers take better photographs and write killer descriptions. Items with clear, well lit photos tend to sell better.

Write down phrases that successful sellers use in their Item Details. No need to copy a description word-for-word, just jot down a few notes and phrases.

From looking at other seller's listings, I realized my clothing listings needed solid, accurate measurements. One of the top jean sellers had a picture/drawing of a pair of jeans with lines showing exactly how she took her measurements. Her measurements included waist, hips, rise and cuffs.

I immediately added the waist, inseam, rise and cuff measurements to my listings. I also explained that the measurements were taken with the jeans laying flat. The waist measurement was doubled, as was the cuff. I needed to give my buyers useful information and cut down on the number of questions I had to answer from buyers trying to find the right size .

How do I sell on Ebay?

Take clear photos of your jeans for your listings. A minimum of two photos are necessary, to show the front and back of the jeans.

King Human's Power Seller Tips

King Human: Learn from His Tips

When I first came across a King Human video on YouTube I was put off by his obnoxious, all-knowing manner of speaking. Over time, my heart has softened toward King Human and I've watched almost all of his videos. He does know what he's talking about. He sold his Aliens in A Jar on EBay for years at a great profit. Aliens in a Jar were items he created using a few low cost supplies, which he then sold for major profit. Skeptical? He's got experience in flipping websites, finding hot products to resell and more. If you don't believe it, just go to Youtube and check him out. He may talk a bit loud and tend to ramble but King Human is a marketing genius.

Best Brands of Jeans to Sell on Ebay

Clothing can be sold in lots or by the piece. Focus on finding great pieces which will sell for top dollar.

Storing Your Ebay Merchandise

Do you have an extra closet or bedroom to keep your inventory stash? Keep the room/area off-limits to pets if possible. I keep all my clothing in clear plastic storage bids with colored lids. I stack the bins in an extra closet and separate my bins by category. Children's clothing goes in one bin, men's clothing in another.

All items that are currently for sale are ironed and neatly folded, then placed in the storage bin. Once the jeans/items sell, I carefully inspect them again, iron out any wrinkles and hit them with a lint roller before shipping them off. A stray cat hair (or worse) is the last thing a buyer wants to pull out of the package. When you order an item from a catalogue, it arrives wrapped in a neat little clear plastic bag.

Your goal as a seller is to get your buyer to feel they have made a good decision by ordering your item. You want them to leave you positive feedback and become a repeat buyer from your store. Nothing is worse than careless packaging.

Sell High End Denim Brands like Paige, True Religion, Hudson, and Diesel

Buyers are searching EBay everyday for the hottest brands of jeans. Here are a few of my favorite brands:

Diesel-original Diesel jeans are made of better material than the fake Diesels. Do market research to be sure you are selling only originals. Diesel was started in 1978 by Renzo Rossi. Popular styles include Zathan (men's) which are slim-fitting bootcut jeans and Thanaz (men's), which have a straight leg and slim fit.

Hudson- Peter Kim started Hudson in 2002 in California. These jeans are very hot and have a Union Jack label and trademark triangular back pocket

True Religion-known for oversized white stitching, these jeans are made in the USA. Best-selling style is the Super T jeans.

Paige-my personal favorite women's style is the Skyline Skinny in Carson, these jeans are high end and they even have a great Skyline Skinny Maternity jean

Included Manufacturers Size Chart in Your Listing

When you sell clothing online, sizes and measurements are critical. It's always a good idea to include the manufacturer's size chart as well as your own measurements.

Buy Off Season Merchandise

Right now it's December and while everyone else at my favorite thrift store is looking at sweaters, jackets and jeans, I'm buying shorts. Hollister jean shorts, American Eagle shorts, every hot brand I can find. The secret to making a profit is getting the best deal on your products. If I list the shorts now, chances are good that they will sell well because my buyers are worldwide, not just on the East Coast. If the shorts don't sell right now, I can list them in a few months when the weather heats up. Either way, I have plenty of good inventory to flip right now.

Devote Time to Learning Power Seller Tips

It takes lots of practice to learn the ins and outs of selling on EBay. I recommend studying the market, researching which items sell fastest and for top dollar and checking out books written by successful sellers. It took at least a year of working on my listings and seeking out some sales on EBay before I found which items sold well. I started off selling antique and vintage items for a friend's dad but it wasn't until I found the jeans niche that my sales took off.

Sell Vintage Jewelry on Ebay

Resell Vintage and Costume Jewelry for Top Dollar

If you can get your hands on a stash of costume jewelry, you have got hundreds of buyers looking for well-made pieces from the past that can be repurposed or used for crafting. Even broken jewelry and mismatched clip-on earrings are hot items on EBay. Learn which brands of jewelry sell best. You should be able to quickly sort through estate sale jewelry and pull out the good stuff.

Devote One Day to Preparing Listings

A great day to start your auctions is Sunday evening. Ebay allows you to schedule your postings so you can easily upload your photos and write your description ahead of time, then simply schedule your listing. This service costs nothing extra. You want your auction to end at a time when there is a lot of Ebay traffic and Sunday night is perfect. On Fridays, my day off from my day job, I photograph my items, take measurements and make sure my items are clean and ready to sell. Depending on how busy I am, I can either time I get a bid on one of my itemload my listings into my mobile phone or wait until Saturday to do this. After I list a piece of clothing, I write the date listed in my notebook. Then, on Sunday, when my auctions are winding down, my phone alerts me each time I get a bid on an item. This easy listing process helps me to have some very sweet dreams.

Use Flat Rate Boxes For Shipping

My #1 biggest seller is brand name jeans. Staying organized is the key when I am printing several shipping labels at once. I use a Flat Rate Priority Mail Envelope to ship jeans. These cost less than $6 a piece. Printing your labels directly from Ebay using Paypal will save you even more money plus allow your buyer to easily track the package. Buyers expect quick shipping. Answering pesky questions like "When will you be shipping my jeans?" takes extra time away from finding the best deals. Cut down on buyer questions by clearly stating in your Item Description your shipping policy. I ship item within 24 hours of the buyer's payment. My phone lets me know (by email) when I have received the money in my Paypal account. Even if I am at work, I know I can easily get the item shipped within one business day.

Find Products That Sell Fast on Ebay

If you can find a hot item, and get it at a great price, order multiples so you can sell them fast and boost your feedback score.

Keep Excellent Records

  • Get a notebook for your listings. Record how much you paid, write down a quick item description including where the product was made, fabric content, tag size, actual measurements you took, and the date you listed the item.
  • Save all receipts. I use a large envelope for my business receipts. Record all your expenses on the front of the envelope, arranged by category including Supplies, Meals (business related only), educational expenses such as classes , Utilities for the business, and Shipping Expenses. It's much easier to write each purchase down right away than to sift through boxes of jumbled receipts at tax time. Sure, this takes a bit of effort, but it's always wise to plan ahead.

Hot Items to Sell on Ebay

Besides clothing, one of my favorite categories on Ebay is Antiques. Antique and vintage items sell like crazy. If you can find a good source, like auctions or estate sales, you can find a goldmine of items to flip on Ebay. I recommend that you experiment with different types of items until you find your niche.

Vintage jewelry is one very hot category that gets lots of views. Brands like Coro and Sarah Coventry sell really well. Throw a few sterling pieces in and you will attract lots of buyers. I especially love rhinestone costume jewelry. Chances are good that what you love is something other people will pay good money for.

Familiarize yourself with picking out the best brands. There are certain keywords that get buyers drooling. Learn them and you will quickly rise to the top.

Add a Return Policy to Your Listings to Boost EBay Sales

EBay used to let sellers dictate their own return policies. Recently, to encourage sales, EBay changed its Return Policy. Buyers have two weeks to return items for almost any reason. A flexible return policy boosts buyer confidence and increases overall spending. Is it good for sellers? I find that sales actually increased when I included information about accepting returns within two weeks. Sure, some buyers exploit this policy and it can backfire, but it will help increase your overall sales.

You can do it. Do not listen to people who say you can't make money selling clothing on Ebay.

Determination is the key to rising to the top. It took me a year to learn which products sold well...hang in there and do NOT give up...especially when your friends question your reasoning. You can do it.
