I enjoy using my 25 years in the business world to write about how to advance one's career and create the best job opportunities.

Finding a part time job is relatively easy in most areas, but finding a part time job that pays well and is something you want to do can be a challenge. Anyone can work part time for the minimum wage, but why settle for less when there are part time jobs that pay much higher than the minimum wage and are more rewarding personally and experience-wise?

The following are some ideas regarding the best and highest paying part time jobs, broken out into part times jobs you can do at home, ones that require you to leave your home, and ones that require training. Of course, not all part time jobs are suitable for all people or situations. Some part time jobs require some training or experience, or in some cases a certificate to prove your competency. Hopefully, the lists below will provide you some good ideas in your quest for a satisfying part time job. Part time jobs can not only provide useful experience and skills, they also can lead to full time jobs, so choose carefully.

Best and Highest Paying Part Time Jobs You Can Do at Home

Social Media Coordinator - While a Social Media Coordinator can be a full time position, some companies and organizations just need a part time Social Media Coordinator to help organize their online marketing or public relations efforts. If you are well versed in using popular social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, you may want to pursue a part time position in this field.

Online Researcher - If you like surfing the Internet for information, then working as an Online Researcher might be the perfect part time gig for you to put some money in your pocket. Sometimes businesses need solid answers or information to provide to their clients or customers, or for their own internal purposes. An Online Researcher works to find answers and information from online sources.

Technical Writer or Content Writer - Do you enjoy writing? If you do, you might enjoy working part time as a Technical Writer or Content Writer. Just check your local online job listings for companies in your area looking for part time writers, or you can join an online site that connects writers with those in need of writers, such as Odesk.com or Elance.com.

Content Editor - With a tsunami of online content being published each day by tens of thousands of websites, there is a need for part time Content Editors to read and edit through articles and online postings before they go live. While the work can be tedious, it is a good source of part time income.

Best and Highest Paying Part Time Jobs Outside of Your Home

Teacher Assistant - If you have children or are just looking for a steady part time job that pays well, check with your local school district to see if there are any Teacher Assistant positions available. Teacher Staff Assistants typically help out teachers who teach Kindergartens or in special needs classrooms. There may also be some positions that involve one-on-one assistance for a special needs child. If you have children enrolled in school, the hours are good, since you will work during the school day and have the same days off as your kids.

Uber Driver or a Lyft Driver - Do you have a relatively flexible schedule and a reliable car? Then, consider becoming an Uber Driver or a Lyft Driver. Both of these app-based taxi services are in need of drivers in many locations that they serve. The hours are flexible and the pay is good. Just make sure your schedule is flexible enough to accommodate your customer’s needs, as some may need you to take them to far away places.

School Bus Driver - Most school districts are in need of School Bus Drivers. Check in your area to see if any local school districts are hiring. The hours can be a bit awkward, since School Bus Drivers are needed early in the morning and during the mid-afternoon to get kids to and from school, but the pay is decent for a part time job. There might also be additional part time money making opportunities to drive for field trips and after school sporting events.

Sports Referee - If you love a particular sport or just like to stay active, then becoming a part time Sports Referee for sporting events might be just the kind of part time job you are looking for and will enjoy doing. The pay varies from sport to sport and from league to league. In most cases, spending an hour or two refereeing a sporting event can be a nice way to put some extra money in your pocket.

Fitness Instructor - If you like to work out, then working as a Fitness Instructor, either teaching classes or one on one with clients, can offer a good way to stay in shape and earn money part time. You are going to work out anyway, why not get paid for it?

Security Guard - If you like to move around and keep an eye on things, then getting a part time job as a Security Guard might be just what you are looking for. While the pay and the work details vary from company to company, working as a part time Security Guard can be a good way to pick up some extra money in your spare time.

Night Auditor - Have you always been a night owl and find yourself wanting to make good use of your late night hours? Consider working as a Night Auditor for a local hotel. If you are good at doing math and keeping track of things, then working as a Night Auditor part time may be the perfect fit for you to make some extra money. You will be responsible for reconciling the hotel’s daily business transactions and possibly helping out with some other organizational needs around the hotel.

School or Music Tutor - If you have a particular skill in an academic subject matter or playing a musical instrument, then working as a School or Music Tutor in your spare time can be a good way to make some extra money. Check with your local schools to see if they already have referral service set up to connect students in need of what you know how to teach. Keep in mind that once you get established, you will need to build your part time business through referrals, so be prompt and courteous when dealing with customers.

Best and Highest Paying Part Time Jobs That Require Training

If you want to earn the most for the part time hours you put in at work, a little training can go a long way. Consider becoming a Dental Hygienist or Massage Therapist. While both of these positions can be full time positions, there are also many opportunities in these fields for part time work. It will take some time and training to get started working in these fields, but the payoff for part time work can make it well worth the time and effort.

As an added bonus, if you really like working as a Dental Hygienist or Massage Therapist and find a need for full time work, then you will be in an excellent position to transition into a full time job.

Some Tips On Landing a Part Time Job

The best way to land a part time job varies just as much as the type of part time jobs that are available. While working as an Uber or Lyft Driver is as easy as filling out an online form and passing their screening requirements, some other part time positions may require a job interview, experience or in some cases certifications.

Just make sure that you you are clear on your intentions when you interview for a part time job. Your future employer is not going to want to hear about your grand plans to use the money and experience that you earn from your part time job to move on to a full time job elsewhere. Instead, focus on how you are the best candidate to fill the part time position, how you bring something valuable to them to fill their needs and solve their problems, and that you intend on being a dedicated employee.

Make Sure You Avoid Part Time Job Scams & Be Careful Giving Out Personal Information

Just be careful not to fall for a work-from-home part time job scam. Scam artists prey on people’s need to find part time work. If a work-from-home part time job seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Do some research online into any work-from-home part time opportunities you are considering to see if others have identified them as scams. Be very careful not to disclose personal information to any part time employer, online or otherwise, unless you are sure that they are legitimate and will not misuse your personal information.

Good luck finding a part time job that pays well and fulfills your interests!

I can say the internet has helped a lot to reduce unemployment and in some other way increased unemployment among the people without internet idea.

Internet has made many young people capable of taking care of themselves.

Who can imagine that 29 years ago, one can be at home work online at the same time making a lot of money?

At this time one of the largest employers in countless states if the temporary or part time job employment agencies. Bringing together businesses searching for the right worker for the job and those folks looking for it. Great piece at a nice time in the history of job hunting

Great information on part-time options. I'm not sure I could handle the Uber job but I'm sure there are many out there who would enjoy the interaction with a diverse population.
