Great Products for Train Lovers

UPDATED: 11/12/2010

Please feel free to view the new links listed on this page that offer more information about CSX and their fuel efficient engines. I also edited the facts above to reflect the new information on their website.

A company about safety

CSX safety motto: Our system of rules is the sum of all the knowledge gained by railroads over many decades. It is the sum of our practical knowledge. CSX’s Vision, purpose, and core values: At CSX, our vision, purpose, and core values are the foundation for everything we do. This allows us to focus on what is important. Disciplined execution distinguishes great companies. This core ideology—our vision, purpose, and values—is the heart and soul of CSX. The Railroad can be an unforgiving place. Because of this, CSX sees leader does not necessarily mean just senior leaders and managers but everyone who influences safety, the informal as well as the formal leaders.

The Future of Intermodal

Fifty percent of workforce is going to retire in the next ten years. Because of this, the management trainee program was established to bring in to bring a continuous flow of talented leaders into the company. The program is targeted towards recent college graduates; in fact one of the requirements is a four year degree with a preference for logistics. The program builds the management trainees into strong leaders with an emphasis on railroad management and railroad safety. They are then moved into various departments inside the corporation in coordination with their skills and interests.

CSX has worked towards reducing the amount of fuel it takes to maintain operations. This green movement is very attractive to younger employees. Currently it can move a ton of freight 468 miles on a single gallon of fuel. It also touts the fact that using rail operations, one intermodal train takes 280 trucks off the highway. This frees up the space on the interstates for private citizens use and lowers the wear and tear on the roadways.

So fantastic that the people who cannot do a simple Google search have opinions on things they do not understand. Please feel free to visit the CSX website where their standards have increased and they are now able to move 500 miles per gallon of fuel.

"Today, CSX trains can move a ton of freight nearly 500 miles per gallon of fuel. CSX has invested $1.5 billion over the last decade to improve its locomotive fuel efficiency and reduce the corresponding emissions. In 2009, we voluntarily committed to reduce CO2 emissions by 8% per revenue ton mile by 2011. Our commitment will reduce CO2 emissions by 2.4 million tons – the equivalent of taking 441,000 cars off the road each year, or burning 5,598,000 fewer barrels of oil."
