Being one of the highly specialized sectors, teaching sector demands comprehensive training and in-depth knowledge. To start teaching at school level, you should possess a Bachelors in Education (B. Ed) degree.
There are various colleges across the country offering these degree courses both on regular and correspondence basis. Also, after completing class XII in any field, you can take up any vocational teaching course at polytechnics or institutes. One can also do post-graduation or Masters in Education (M.Ed) to add to the qualifications and to get the next higher grade on a teaching job. In case, you are interested in specializing as a nursery teacher only; you must complete a special nursery teacher training courses, offering by various institutes across the country.
Basic Training Certificate (BTC), Diploma in Education (D.Ed) and Teacher Training Certificate (TTC) are some pivotal courses that may help you in getting a teaching job. In case, you want to make a career as a sports teacher or fitness instructor, you will need to obtain a degree/diploma or certificate from any of the recognized sports institutes of the country.
Furthermore, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for appointing teachers in class I-VIII in government and state schools. There are many private schools also which are accepting CTET scores.
If you want to take up lecturer positions in colleges and university, you will need to clear the NET exam conducted by the UGC (University Grants Commission). To appear for the test, at least 55% is required at graduation level. After completing M.A, you can become a specialist by doing Ph.d or M.Phil course.
