Five Cool Office & Desk Accessories - Even a Jellyfish!

Updated on January 5, 2013

What Would You Like in Your Office?

Is your desk getting a little ho-hum? Does your cubicle need some motivation? Are you looking for gift ideas for your administrative assistant? How about some unique ideas for making your office or desk area more fun? Consider these cool items:

1) Postcarden

You could get a postcard that turns into a garden. Just set it up on your desk by a window and watch your new office plant grow. You can google to find different distributors of these unique postcards that cost about $13 each. Designs include houses, football fields, and even a winter wonderland.

You can give your administrative assistant a typical office plant, or you could give this cool plant that will get everyone talking!

2) Just Get Your Foot in the Door

For a bit of whimsy in your office that definitely trumps the plain brown, rubber door stops that I've seen a million times, check out these red high heels. Stick a Red Shoe in the Door under your office door to prop it open for visitors. Why not get two - every powerful office professional needs to have a sexy pair of pumps, don't you think?

3) Storage Ideas

Many choices can be found for a caddy to keep office supplies organized on your desk. A photo caddy adds that personal touch. I like the one that Pottery Barn sells that is a lazy susan.

You could also make your own unique storage out of baskets or jars. I have a pencil holder that was an old soup can decorated by my son. I found this great storage sconce made from an old canning jar.

4) Webble Footrest

Most people need to consider ergonomics when sitting at a desk for any length of time. Your knees are supposed to be parallel with your hips when you are in your chair - which means you could probably use a footstool.

A cool footrest that not only gets your feet up off the floor, but also keeps them moving, is called the Webble. Using a Webble will help your legs and feet not feel so achy at the end of a long day at your computer.

5) Jellyfish Aquarium

My favorite item, if money was no object, would be to have a jellyfish aquarium on my desk. A cool pet for the office and a fun view for visitors, jellyfish are fascinating. They are not as easy to care for as a goldfish, but they are not as difficult as you might think. Find out more at: Jellyfish Aquarium.

Do Something Different

Hope I've inspired you to think outside the box (or the cubicle). The hours you spend working at your desk shouldn't be spent in dull, unmotivating sameness. Think "accessorize."

Those really are cool gadgets...I don't have an office...I do have a writing studio...but really I just stopped by to see how you are doing. You haven't written in four months...I hope you are well. Thank you for visiting my humble site; I do appreciate it.

I try to get up and move around every hour when I'm at the desk, but sometimes I get lost in my work and forget! The footrest would help keep my circulation going...

You have some really nice office accessories. I thought the footrest was so practical and it would feel really good. Useful hub.
