Free Tips:: Making Money On Line:: Part 7

Updated on August 15, 2012

Making Money Online: Now You Are Getting The Idea

In order to make money on line you must be consistent. The desire to make money is not enough. You have to be willing to work for it. Hopefully you have learned by now that you are the only magic bullet in your money making arsenal. No program can do it for you. In order to gain you must be willing to give. If you give of your time and your knowledge you will see results. The people who don't make money gave up without giving themselves the chance to succeed. The world of cyberspace is littered with the abandoned websites of those who gave up on their dream. Don't give up on yours.

You must avoid any and all distractions.

When I say avoid distractions that means all of the things that may give you an excuse to avoid your work schedule for the day. In construction we say "Plan your work, then work your plan." That applies here and everywhere. If you want to improve your life, relationships, business, or remodel your bathroom; if you plan your work and work your plan then you will succeed.

Distractions come in all shapes and sizes: phone calls, e-mails, video and computer games, television, kids, pets; the list goes on and on. When you work for someone else you generally have a schedule, punch a time clock, take your assigned breaks and go home. You need to follow this business model in order to make money from home as well. Decide what hours are best for your business. What works for you in your life.

Before you sit down to work you want to make sure that the things that could distract you are already taken care of. Whether it's walking the dog, feeding the cat, or getting the kids bathed and in bed, take care of the tasks of Daily Living first. You know when your favorite television shows are on and when your best friend usually calls. Determine a work time that will be free from disturbances. Talk to your family and tell them your planned schedule so that they aren't trying to get your attention when you're working.

Many people think that working from home is easy, the truth is that often when you take a break you may not get back to work for hours. You wouldn't do that if you were working for someone else, why do that when you're working for yourself? Successful people know that they must stick to their work ethic in their home based business, just as they did when working for someone else.

Gold Nugget for Today

Next on today's list of tips: You need to know what hours are best for publication and promotion.

According to the statistics I've found for US blogging and newsletters, it's best to put them out either early in the morning, before 7:AM, after 5:00 and 11:00PM. In order to find out what works best for you try promoting on Twitter or Facebook at various times per day. See what works.

Another study I found claimed that releases on Thursday do better than the rest of the week, but if you are selling online, buyers are often looking to buy on Friday. That should come as little surprise, many people get paid on Friday. New products sell best between the first and fifth of the month while used or reduced prices do better towards the end of the month. The reason for this seems to be that people who get paid every two weeks or monthly have more money at the beginning of the month than at the end.

I have released articles on Friday Saturday and Sunday and invariably the Friday articles do better for me short term. Long term it doesn't really matter. The most traffic seems to be in the Entertainment and in Mental Health. I know those seem completely unrelated but ironically they may be more closely related than you think. Often when we are sad we look for something to cheer us up, Entertainment. Misery loves company so Gossip is always a hot commodity. Monetizing these subjects ( should you decide to take that upon yourself ) is easy. Sell DVD's, books and movies; sell self help books.

Today's Homework

Yes, I want you to write a hub today. I also want you to go to the Hub Pages Learning Center and choose an article to read. Focus on learning from this area of the site at least twice a week. Every day would be better, but I am assuming you have a job or are in school. If you are among the unemployed then you should be able to write a hub a day and still go to the learning center every day as well.

I can't force you to do these things. Most likely you'll read this and then go back to your e-mail and internet searches, looking for that magic formula that will turn your PC into a cash machine. Old adage : If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I know that out of one hundred readers one will decide that this makes enough sense to actually follow through. If you're lucky, you're that one out of a hundred. It's your choice.

As always, if you wrote a hub after reading my articles please post it here. I promise to read, comment and share. I'll also let you know if there are things you can do to improve your writing, if you like. Don't disregard this offer. I don't charge for my advice. There are plenty of people who do get paid for editing, but this is a community of writers who are happy to help. We even have a section in the forum for "extreme hub make-overs" so that you can get free advice.

You wonder why we would all be willing to help you? This is where we make our living. If you look good then we look good. HubPages didn't start out with high ranking in the search engines, that ranking was earned by the excellence of the writers.

Once you get your teeth cut here you can go on to other sites and cast your fishing lines there. You'll go there with an excellent work ethic, you'll know what you're doing as a writer, you'll be able to offer your services as a freelance writer or editor. The internet world is your oyster. If you want to make money online then you need to decide you are my one in a hundred.

Hi Mellonyy, yeah it's something I recently learned but it makes sense. People go to work, cook dinner, put the kids to bed; there are specific times that your visitor will have a moment to "check" their tweets or facebook page. Think about your niche market and ask yourself what the best time for them might be. Don't forget that we get readers from all over the world. You don't want to spam these sites but tweetingg or facebooking your article only when it's finished won't get you the traffic that multiple postings will.

Thanks for sharing this valuable info, I didn't know that promoting on Twitter or Facebook should be at various times per day. Voted up!

Hi Adept2012! Thanks for visiting again! I hope you are staying encouraged. Don't give up, remember they say Rome wasn't built in a day, but looking just at the growth of the internet alone, it wasn't built in a day either. If you are concerned then just look at how long it took for some of the top producers to become successful. Google "Google" and "Microsoft" and "Amazon". Now while we may not hope to have the same success, their successes took time. I have been desperate to earn money online and at other times given up entirely. That's why I'm here now, trying to make sure that friends like you don't make those mistakes. Don't be desperate and don't give up; the two most important pieces of advice I can give to anyone.

Hello Ihale! I read it and I will comment in a few minutes. I am really excited that you read all seven in one sitting but don't let me be a distraction. I want to motivate you while leaving some energy to write. I've been keeping them relatively short for that reason as well.

I'm really happy to get some feedback, although the earnings have been amazing, so I know I'm doing something right.

      Hey Scoop!

Great to see you really came back. Yes it does need to be a real job if you want to make real money and anyone who wants to make "Serious Money" needs to be serious about the work. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Great hub. I think one of the main reasons people do not make money from home is because of distractions. Working from home is still work and it needs to be treated as such.

I really enjoyed reading this hub.

Thank you so much for this series. I just read all 7 at one sitting. What an inspiration! Unlike so many things I've read lately, you are actually saying something worthwhile. Way to go! A week or so ago I wrote this hub, . I think you will understand why I'm so attracted to what you are saying. I definitely need someone to light that fire! Looking forward to your next hub!
