If you offer to organize wedding, party, or event, without it costing me anymore than if I just do it myself (but saving me 10 hours of work), then by all means - you're hired! Find ways to make a profit from the venues and products that you will be using rather than charging your clients a higher price.
Intern With a Professional: If you are privileged enough to find someone willing to train you, than take advantage of that. Even if it means not getting paid. The tips that you will learn working for someone already positioned in the field can be invaluable. Not to mention, if he is very popular, there will likely be busy that he may have to turn down on occasion. Prove yourself worthy and he just might refer you to clients that he cannot serve himself.
Don't Quit Your Day Job: It can take a long time before you will get your first client and even longer before you earn enough to support yourself. As with any business, make sure that you can support yourself if the business fails. The worst place to be is broke, unemployed, and throwing your last few dollars at a business that isn't working (however, being broke and unemployed has provided many people with the extra push to make their business succeed).

However, if you live in a city, focusing on a particular field or method of promotion will give you a great leg up.
