How To Capture The Younger Customer

Updated on August 22, 2012

Younger Customers Love To Go Online

Younger customers love to go online to find new gadgets and products. The iPhone, iPad and just about any other gadget can be found through eBay or Craigslist. If you want to capture the attention of the younger customer, you need to make sure that your online marketing campaign is doing all the little things right. Let's talk a little bit about what the younger customer is really looking for.

Younger Customers Want Social Media Reviews

People who are aged 18-29 really want to know what their friends think about a certain product. They will go on Twitter or Facebook to get a review from people who have actually used the latest cell phone, computer or played the latest video game. Why play $60 for Madden 13 if the game is just going to be like Madden 12?

Younger Customers Want Information Available Now

Who wants to go to the store to look at a product? Why can't that Motorola Xoom product description just be listed online? The process of purchasing a product generally doesn't require going to the store anymore. Actually having to go out just means wasted time that could be spent playing Call of Duty or some other video game. If the younger customers do have to go out, they want everything at the push of a button. QR codes are a great way to provide this information on demand.

Younger Customers Want An Interactive Shopping Experience

People say that those who are between the age of 18-29 are anti-social or don't know how to connect with others. This is not true. The way that these younger customers connect is just different. Instead of talking to a salesperson at the store, they will talk to someone online.

Think about providing a demo of a product to attract sales. Make it available for download immediately. For example, the new Madden 13 video game has a download available right now. Those who enjoy the preview are more inclined to buy the game. Of course, they will do so online.

Entice Younger Customers With Trendy Styles For Less Money

This tip applies to anything that a younger person would want to buy. New cars are coming out that emphasize styling and new technology while still keeping the price tag low. Cars like the Ford Fiesta get great gas mileage, come with voice command technology and are reasonably priced. Why wouldn't a recent college grad not want a car like that?

The Younger Customers Want The First Thing That They See

Make sure that you are the first search result for your targeted keyword or keywords. If you were targeting Madden 13 as your keywords, you want to be the top search result for that phrase. This means that you want to put Madden 13 in your content at least once per 100 words. Make sure that your content is natural and speaks to the younger crowd. They don't like to be played as naive or too stupid to understand a sales ploy.

What Do Younger Customers Want Again?

If you want to get the 18-29 year old crowd to buy from you, you better be marketing your goods online. Provide access to customer reviews, make it trendy and inexpensive and make sure that you are the first link that they see. Otherwise, you might not be selling your allotment of the iPad as well as you thought you would be able to.
