Diagraming Business Process Flows

For a fun and easy way to understand process flow diagrams watch the music video and turn up the volume.

The Basics

Identify Roles - Roles represent who executes a step in the business process.  They can be a person, group, or system component.

Identify Steps - Steps, sometimes called procedures, make up the business process.  These are individual tasks that add value to the process.  Steps can be decision points that branch to different steps depending on the decision or content of information being passed to it.

Identify Data - Data flows from one step to another.  This data is either created or enhanced during the process and provides subsequent steps with needed information.
