Proving Yourself

When you are in the work place as a female, you want to be at least respected by the male employees. A way to have the respect of your male employees, is to prove yourself trust worthy. Sometimes the only way to prove yourself at a job, is unfortunately, time. You have to earn respect, it is not usually freely given. Am employer is looking for someone who can, work independently. A responsible employee could be given the responsibility of being outside the office and at other locations called satellite offices. This employee will be responsible for the transfer of money and getting back to the office as soon as possible, when your expected job duties are done at the satellite office. There are a lot of responsibilities when you work independently. I work with doctors so, there has to be great communication between, the doctors and their staff.

Getting along well with others and working as a team player can be invaluable as well. Not ever getting in a heated disagreement and just doing your job without any problems is a great way to get the respect that you deserve. I don't know about you but, I would much rather be around people who enjoy doing what they do rather than someone who is always complaining about every little thing. Take pride in your work! The harder the worker you are will allow you to be put in a position that requires more responsibility.

Being flexible is another great way to gain respect and probably gain respect the fastest. If I was to become an employer one day, one of the traits I would look for in a potential employee, is that they be honest and flexible with their schedules (when possible). When there becomes a situation that no one really has good control over, sometimes you have to roll with the punches. Trust me, change is not easy for me but, learning the hard way more than once, in the recent past, has made me realize that it is better at times to take a deep breathe and step back and try to see both sides of a situation before reacting.

Another basic way to prove yourself, is to dress for success, remain professional at all times and work very hard and you should be fine. You might try to work extra hard in the beginning and remember first impressions go far and they are remembered.

Ask questions along the way if necessary. When you ask questions, this will clarify up things that you are not sure of and make sure that you understand your job responsibilities. This will in turn help you prove to be a worthy employee.

* Please share your ideas or thoughts on how to be taken seriously in the work place by leaving comments in the capsule located at the bottom of this article.

The Way You Dress

The way that you are perceived is by first impression. This impression is persuaded by the first appearance when you meet a person for the first time. I for instance, work for doctors. We are required to wear specific uniforms so that everyone in our company matches. We certainly look more professional and are taken more seriously when we have our proper uniforms on.

Looking the part says a lot about who you are and how you will behave during important situations. Besides if you want to be the best you gotta dress like the best. The old saying goes dress for success and it is so true.

Being Well Spoken

In my line of work being a Medical Assistant for a busy Physiatrist or Physical Medicine & Rehab. Always being on the go is just part of it. You must have the ability to relay quickly, messages from other doctors and nurses and be able to get them accurately. A few months back, some of us received the opportunity to get extra training by take a Dale Carnegie course. Working with your co-workers and having an open line of communication with the bosses can disperse any misconceptions that you had or have about them or them about you. You can't always trust your closest of co-workers.

Taking Care of Yourself

Really taking care of yourself tells whoever is observing you in the work place that you take pride in what you look like. Looking good can really help elevate your moods. If you are going to have a big presentation at work, you want to be sure to shave, shower, wash your hair and put on your required uniforms take a deep breathe and get ready for your day.

Wear a tie and dress up nice if for example your going to a meeting on your off day. It may be okay to wear jeans but do not do this. Keep it professional at all times.
