There is a worldwide tradition of making "New Year's Resolutions". People observe this as a tradition. The tradition was actually made to motivate and encourage people to set their goals. People in the US and European Union mostly follow this tradition. However, it loses its significance when one does it as a ritual without having a real motif to set and achieve a smart goal. It is advisable to make this "New Year's Resolutions" in the spring instead of 1st January, the New Year day.

Dream, dedication, confidence and challenge to set and achieve effective goals

Everybody has dreams. However, they can not convert their dreams into achievements. Dreaming is only the first step of achieving goal. You need to do much more than to dream to achieve your goals.

Four Ds

You have to convert your dreams into desires. Dream is imagination. Desire is a strong will to achieve your dream. Desire is specific and targeted whereas dream is vague. You have to support your desire dedicated work. Your dedication will lead you to your destination (Goal). This is smart and effective way of achieving goals. While dream and desire help you in setting your smart and effective goals dedication works as a strong tool to achieve your goals.

What more do you need to achieve your goals after setting smart and effective goals? You need four Cs to achieve it.

Four Cs

The first thing you need is competence. You can not achieve anything without competence. If you do not have enough competence for achieving your goals acquire it. Competence brings confidence and a confident person can achieve desired goals.

You have to exercise control. Control over yourself. You can control people, situations only if you have internal locus of control. Control your instincts, control your emotions to take control of your situations. This will help you tremendously in achieving your goals.

Take challenges. Do not escape from setting higher and harder goals. Take challenges as fun! Motivate yourself to take challenges and achieve. The winners take challenges and accomplish them.

Spend some time thinking of who you are

First of all spend some time thinking of who you are. You set your goal for future and your future is closely related to your past and present. Think of yourself, your skills, education, training, experience and qualities. Think of your abilities and potentials. These will not only help you setting your goal but also give you the strength to achieve this goal. This is fun way!

Thinking about yourself will help you setting realistic goals and not imaginary ones.

Brainstorm different areas of your life. Choosing Goals through Questioning

While thinking about yourself you can use brainstorming method. It will help you looking into different areas of your life. It will show your pros and cons of your life. It will show your strengths and weaknesses. Ask yourself what will you do while solving your problems and meeting your smart goal. Ask yourself what you will do to reach your goal.

All these will be extremely helpful in setting your smart and effective goal. Please be careful while questioning. Do not set imaginary, non achievable goals.

Does Goal Setting Work? Can You Achieve Your Dreams?

Write down your goals! Be specific

Write down your goals. Remember that the “Faintest ink is better than the best memory”. Thoughts are bubbles that vanishes shortly. Manage your scattered thoughts and crystallize. You can organize all your thoughts while writing. You can also find loop holes while writing down. Be specific while setting your goals. Ask yourself how exactly you will do this.

It is smart writing a statement than to write a story while setting a smart and effective goal. Write your goals as positive statements. It is better to write your statement in a positive sentence, Negative sentences affect negatively on your mind.

Set a long term goal. This is necessary. The smart and effective way to achieve your long term goal is to break down your long-term goal into short term manageable pieces.
