If you feel you have something to give to the next generation of industry professionals, and have what it takes to become a teacher, consider this exciting and rewarding career in hospitality teacher training education.

In a previous post we spoke about the constant demand of workers in the hospitality industry and how is important, for those who want to embark a career in hospitality, to have a superior training in order to achieve a rewarding position in the industry. The hospitality industry offers a wide range of positions, and as professionals are constantly needed, teachers with exclusive knowledge about this industry are essential to maintain the quality of the business.

You don’t need to become Gordon Ramsey to teach any aspect of hospitality, but you need to have some important soft skills in order to provide a high quality education to your future students. Some of the skills you should have to break-in the Hospitality Industry Training Education are:

  • Outstanding commands of all aspects of your profession – in theory and practice.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate others.
  • Patience and positive attitude is a must.
  • Passion in maintaining the highest standards in every aspects of the training process of your students.

It might seem to you that you don’t have the potential that a hospitality teacher trainer might require, or that you are missing one or two of the soft-skills we previously mentioned, but with the right training you might obtain these and more, you must only discover your ‘inside trainer’ and get certified.

Becoming and internationally certified teacher

Over the years I’ve met a considerable amount of people who are working in Hospitality Management that actually want to become hospitality teacher trainers but they don’t find the light in the tunnel that might guide them to reach their goal and there is only one step: get certified.

There are different ways to get certified as an instructor; all of them depend on the sector and training organization that you will be teaching in. Some require any level of teaching qualifications and others will assess your experience in the field and your attitude towards teaching.

Teaching is a very satisfying job. It might require a lot of patience, commitment and dedication but you will be rewarded once you see your students acquiring the skills that will lead them into high positions in the Hospitality industry. You will be an agent of change; you will be taking part in the shaping process of the industry.

If you feel you have something to give to the next generation of industry professionals, and have what it takes to become a teacher, consider this exciting and rewarding career in hospitality teacher training education.

There are very few hospitality teacher training and international certifications programmes available. I have recently attended
one in Florida, organized by the International Hospitality and Tourism Institute which highly recommend. What I liked the most was the outstanding combination of theory and real practice that can easily help to anyone who wants to become a great hospitality trainer.
